“Look I’m not saying it is the radiator hose,” Cobie was muttering, gesturing aimlessly at the steaming engine of the Military grade truck, “I’m just saying it could be,” she continued, the frustration evident in her voice as her blue eyes flickered from the hood of the truck back to Beckham’s somewhat amused expression. She’d taken it for a drive that morning and got as far as the perimeter fence before it started making an awful clunking sound. By the time Cobie had got it back through the gate the engine was smoking and it seemed just about ready to give up the go. “It’s not funny,” Cobie whined, walking round to the front of the truck and eyeing the fried mechanics with trepidation. It was just her luck that one of the guys had been stood on the steps of the house when she’d turned up, it could have been anyone but it just so happened that Beckham had decided to get up early for once in his life. Which meant it was almost certain this was going to get back to Rixon if it hadn’t already.Cobie sighed and pressed her palms against the grill, standing on her tip-toes and leaning over to look for any blaring problems. It was ironic really that for someone who possessed such a knack for fixing vehicles Cobie was often the one who broke them in the first place. “Well don’t just stand there,” she said indignantly, shooting a glance over her shoulder at the other wolf-shifter. Admittedly he was under no obligation to help her and if he really wanted Beckham could have left right there and then. Still while he was here Cobie intended to make the most of his help. With a sigh she clambered down off the vehicle and sauntered over to him.
“Please Beck, just take a look at it for me?” she pleaded, all big blue eyes and disarming smile. Cobie could be downright charming when she wanted to be, still all the boys knew her tricks by now and she was just hopeful Beckham was feeling nice enough to help her out. She’d have to get him a drink or something to make up for it later.
"Oh it might be," Beckham nodded in agreement, a sly smile on his face. "You may need to check it again just to make sure." He told Cobie. For the first time in forever, Beckham had woken up before ten in the morning. Of course it wasn't by choice, some idiot had decided that breaking a light right outside his door was a good idea. The sound of shattering glass and male swearing had pulled Beckham out of his slumber with a start. Unable to go back to sleep, he had decided to go out for a run before his shift started. He had made it down the front stairs in time to ear female swearing this time. It hadn't taken him long to find the source. Cobie was leaned over the hood of the military Hummer cursing like a sailer as she tried to get it to work.
The gentleman thing to do was to help obviously. But Beckham was never one to act like a gentleman and that's how he found himself leaning against the stair railing watching the female shifter attempt to fix the truck. He knew automatically what it was when he had heard the awful sound coming from it. But he enjoyed the entertainment that watching her fix it brought.
"You don't need help, little girl" Beck joked from his spot on the stairs, "You know more about cars than any of us" he reminded her. Beckham new that he was going to pay for his little girl comment, but it was fun to see Cobie get all worked up. Although They were very different, Rixon and Cobie shared a similar temper. But unlike Rixon, Cobie was easy to calm down.
Cobie rolled her eyes and leaned against the truck once again, hooking her finger under the rubber tube that ran from the radiator to the coolant container and eyeing it for any damage. "Okay..so it's not the radiator hose," she muttered, dropping the tube and leaning against the truck with a sigh. Pressing her knuckles against her forehead Cobie willed herself to think, it was still early however and without her morning cup of coffee Cobie's head was just as frazzled as the truck's engine. She hadn't intended to start her morning quite like this and she certainly hadn't wanted to be stranded out here in only her exercise clothes with the likes of Beckham for company. The reason Cobie always got up so early was to avoid the leering glances of her comrades as she pranced around in yoga pants. They were like brothers to her and she knew Rixon would beat the hell out of anyone who made an advance on her. Still the prospect of going behind Rixon’s back was something Cobie had considered from time to time, causing that sort of mischief was always amusing - Rixon’s temper however, wasn’t.Cobie hadn’t seen much of her brother this morning, well aside from when she’d yelled at him across the living space. He’d been in a stormy mood by the look of it and only one thing seemed to get him out of that. Cobie didn’t exactly understand Rixon’s fascination with the human doctor, still if it made him happy then it was fine with her. The last thing Cobie wanted was a repeat of that night a few months ago. Rixon had been in a foul mood for some reason no one else understood, he’d gone wolf, dashed off between the trees and made it as far as the state border before some county sheriff had downed him with a hunting rifle. That had been the worst week of Cobie’s life, not knowing where he was until Rixon just appeared out of the blue with the pretty doctor in tow. Cobie had vowed never to let his temper get him killed, she’d never forgive herself if he died because of his own stupid hot-headedness.
Beckham’s comment cut through Cobie’s wandering thoughts and she turned, placing her hands on her hips and glowering up at him, “Bite me,” she told him, her blue eyes dancing as she almost dared him to say something else. After a moment she simply turned her back on him and returned her attention to the truck, muttering under her breath mostly to herself, “Little girl? I’d watch your mouth wolf boy.” She stayed, staring perplexed at the engine of the vehicle. It seemed hopeless at this point, Cobie could fix most things but maybe she should look at this with fresh eyes later on.
A low chuckled escaped Beckham as Cobie reacted to his comment. To him, this was similar to teasing a best friend or sister. Although he did not know what it was like to have a sibling or even a Real family for the matter. Having his parents abandon him at such a young age, the only family he really knew was foster care and his foster mom Marry. Even if Beck viewed Cobie as a friend at the moment, he wasn't blind to the fact that she was beautiful. Not only her beauty amazed him, but also her inner strength. She had made it through the marines basic training with flying colors and landed a role as an alpha unit member. And the fact that she dealt with him everyday without complaining was also a plus. Well a little complaining. "Darlin', I'll bite you wherever you want," Beck responded and snapped his teeth for affect, "Just name the place and time and I'm yours. " He finished with a smirk. Similar to Cobie's brother, Beck had a flirty and arrogant personality.
Cobie's was grateful her back was turned when Beckham retaliated in his usual flirty manner, a slight blush had made it's way onto her cheeks accompanied by a coy smile on her lips. She couldn't help but let her imagination wander just a little bit, the thoughts that crossed her mind a moment later were not the kind that could be voiced across the driveway. It took her less than a second to regain her composure and then she was back, whirling around with her usual spit-fire attitude intact. "Don't let Rixon hear you say that," she smirked, "He'll turn you into a rug." That was thing for Cobie and the thought saddened her a little as she returned her attention to the truck, Rixon was always so protective and even when he was preoccupied with the doctor he always seemed to know what Cobie was up to. She sighed and reached back into the truck again, searching for any loose components that could have caused the problem. That's when she heard the door slam up at the house and turned to see Rixon striding down the driveway towards them. "Speak of the devil..." Cobie grumbled, climbing down off the truck and walking over to greet him. She stopped short however as she saw the look on his face.
Rixon was evidently in a rage, his face was flushed in places, blonde hair askew and there was a set to his jaw that suggested he was about to pummel someone into the earth. "Rixon?" Cobie asked tentatively, receiving only a golden eyed glare from her usually blue eyed brother. "Rixon, stop!" Cobie called out to him, walking towards him this time and blocking him from walking past the truck, "What the hell is the matter?"
Rixon didn't reply at first simply looked over her shoulder towards the forests at the edge of the property, his nostrils flaring and his breath coming out in short, sharp bursts. "Get out of the way Cobie," he snarled and Cobie took half a step back at the sound of his voice. There was something highly dangerous about him right now, Rixon was always intimidating but he never directed that anger at Cobie. She narrowed her eyes and remained still in front of him, open her mouth to speak once again.
"No," she replied, her voice laced with defiance. Cobie wasn't letting him leave this time.
Beckham laughed as she brought up her brother, "You know, you can't use your bother as a defense for everything right?" He told her and stalked forward and ended up leaning against the Hummer. Like all the other shifters at the base, Beck had a natural grace in his movements. Although he seemed calm in his human state, similar to Rixon, Beckham struggled to control the wolf once he was shifted. Beckham had been sedated numerous times before because his wolf got so out of hand. "Besides, Rix and I are chill." Beckham said, reminding Cobie of their tight friends ship, "He wouldn't ca-" Beck was suddenly cut off by the sight of Rixon stalking out of the house. The look of utter rage covered his face and he looked like he was about to snap. "Maybe I spoke too soon." He mumbled.
Beck stood up straight as the furious wolf shifter stalked towards them. He was honestly thinking that Rix had overheard his comment to Cobie and he was coming to murder him. Beckham couldn't help the sigh of relief as Rix continued walking past them. He watched on as Cobie tried to Calm him down some. Seeing that it wasn't really doing any good, Beck moved so he was behind the shifter and Cobie was in front of him. They had him cornered he couldn't go after anyone, "What's going on bro?" He asked calmly and casually. "Do I need to find your sexy nurse?" He asked jokingly, trying to ease the tension.
Everyone at the base was aware of Rixon and Roscoe's relationship. If anyone could calm him down when in one of his rampages, it was the nurse. When she was around Rix, he was so much calmer and easygoing. But the second she left the room, he became more ridged and tense. Most of the men at the base would love to 'Hit that', but they knew better, Rix had all but claimed Roscoe as his mate. He just hadn't realized it yet.
Rixon snarled low under his breath as Beckham moved to stand behind him, he was boxed in between his younger sibling and someone he considered amongst his closest friends. He almost felt betrayed by the two of them, the fact that neither of them seemed willing to move out of the way and let him pass. Rixon didn't want to sit and talk about his feelings, he wanted to change, to release the aching pain that his wolf was causing inside of him and to run. To forget about his anger and let the wolf roam free. He looked between Beckham and Cobie, eyes flashing golden in anger. "It's nothing," Rixon snapped at Beck, his lip curling in frustration, "Just get out of the way, Cobie fuck off!" he growled, forcibly shoving past his sister. Cobie looked visibly hurt at first before her fiery temper took hold and her eyes narrowed in response."No," she bit back, "Will you just stop for a minute?" Cobie continued, half running-half walking to catch up with Rixon's striding pace. She grabbed his arm, trying to restrain him but at that point Rixon froze. He'd heard Beckham's comment about Roscoe and he didn't like it one bit. Rixon whirled around, jaw clenched tightly as his golden eyes burned into those of his wolf-shifter comrade.
"Don't say another word about her," he warned, doubling over as a tremor racked his body. Trying to stop his hands from shaking Rixon took two steps back up the driveway, towards Beckham. "Don't ever talk about her," he growled, the sound coming out more animal than human. Cobie swallowed and looked about the driveway, fearful that any second her brother was going to change. He couldn't, not here on the driveway where the superiors would see his lack of control. Maybe the best thing would be to get him into the trees where he could change and no one would get hurt.
Beckham wasn't in the least surprised when Rixon's temper rose when they blocked him in. No wolf liked to be cornered or confined, but ones that are close to loosing control hate it even more. Beckham's first choice wouldn't normally of been to corner him, but talking him down obviously wasn't working. But that was honestly to be expected, when a wolf is in it's feral state, the only thing that could make them calm down is their alpha or their mate. Because the alpha wasn't on the base currently and Rix didn't have a mate, Cobie and Beck were screwed. After making him comment about Roscoe, Beckham knew he would probably regret it. He was truly hoping that if Rixon thought about Roscoe, he would calm down. Roscoe was like an a human chill pill for Rixon and they were going to end up needing her.
"Dude, you know that I don't have feelings for her." Beck held his hands up in a sign of surrender, "She's yours, we all know that." He reminded Rixon. "And if you don't calm down, you're going to end up hurting someone. What if someone was Roscoe?"
This was bad, Rixon was volatile enough as it was but it seemed as if right now there was no means to control him. Cobie stood her ground however, eyes drifting from her brother's shaking form to the trees in the distance. Maybe if they could at least get him there, then no one would have to know about it. He could let the wolf take over and release the all of that built up anger. Cobie chewed her lip, flinching slightly as Rixon's voice sounded again, her brother never sounded quite like himself when he was angry. "I would never hurt her!" Rixon snarled, baring his teeth at Beckham as his breath came out in low ragged gasps. He ran his hands into his sandy blonde hair, clutching his fingers against the strands as if fighting off a headache. "I need her," he gasped, "I need Roscoe." Cobie nodded slowly, placing a hand on her brother's trembling shoulder. He started away from her touch, golden eyes wild as he looked at her. Rixon growled once again and then turned on his heel, in an instant he had slipped past Cobie and was heading towards the gate, out towards the trees. "Shit," Cobie hissed, making a move to go after him, they couldn't let him get to the trees alone, they'd never track him down again and by then something awful could happen. Cobie wouldn't be fast enough to catch him now though, Rixon had taken off at a running pace and whilst in his human form he was much faster than she was. "Beck! Go after him, whatever you do don't you dare lose him!" Cobie told the other wolf shifter, her sharp blue eyes boring into his, "I mean it," she glowered, "I'm going to find Roscoe," Giving him a parting nod, Cobie turned on her heel and raced up the house in search of the human doctor.
As Cobie and Beckham cornered Rixon, Beck knew that they were both thinking the same thing. They needed to get him into the woods and away from prying eyes and by standards. Even if Rixon said he wouldn't hurt them, he and everyone else had no idea what the wolf would do. At the slightest hint of danger or a threat, the wolf could lash of in defense. Beckham knew that Rixon would never hurt Roscoe voluntarily, but accidents happened. "Rix, I know you'd never hurt her purposely." Beck said as calm as possible, trying to draw his attention to himself and away from other things. Beckham wasn't a sensitive guy, but when Rixon finally admitted that he needed roscoe, his heart broke for him. He knew that it had to be a horrible thing to need someone to calm yourself down. That you were so out of control that you couldn't do it yourself. "We know you do." Beck said lightly
Beckham wasn't fully prepared when Rixon finally made his break for it. Wolf shifter speed, Rixon ran for the shelter of the woods. Beckham was already chasing after him when Cobie yelled at him not to loose him, "No shit Cobie. I don't exactly feel like a came of hide and seek in the woods with feral wolf!" Beckham called back to the she-wolf.
Roscoe had been walking down the hallways looking for Rixon. She needed to tell him what she felt for him. She couldn't play this game anymore with him. She didn't want to have to have another James situation on her hands. "Rixon?" She yelled down one of the long corridors, her soft voice echoing. She wasn't the least Surprised when she didn't get an answer. Rixon was probably off cooling down from his encounter with the asshat of a doctor.
Cobie reached the steps in record time, slipping through the huge oak doors and darting into the entrance hall. A handful of people were milling about, standing in clusters or talking into radios. Cobie could feel eyes on her and she made a point of glaring at anyone who met her gaze as she stalked through the expansive entrance. Two people stood at the doors which led to the hospital wing blocking the entrance, standard medics Cobie assumed from the lab coats. "Move it," she snarled and the two backed away uncertainly, Cobie didn't have to ask twice. She broke into a light jog as she passed them, ducking down the first corridor and working her way through the maze of hallways. "Come on Roscoe where are ya?" she muttered mostly to herself. That's when she heard a distinct female voice calling out for Rixon. Cobie whirled around and headed off in the direction of the voice. It didn't take her long and she skidded to a halt in another corridor, finding herself face to face with the pretty doctor."I've been looking for you," she said, blue eyes bold and watchful as she approached the nurse. Realising how intimidating she must have looked Cobie braved a smile, "I- uh Beck and I need your help, it's Rixon." Cobie said and then chose to amend her words, "He's okay, well- he's not hurt or anything, we just - he needs you," she said, stumbling over her words slightly as she tried not to freak Roscoe out too much. "We need to go to the forest," she explained, not waiting to see if Roscoe was following as she turned and headed back towards the main entrance.
Out in the grounds Rixon had broken into a fast run, easily pacing himself as his long legs pushed him over the grass. The tree line came into view almost instantaneously and Rixon pushed on, feeling the wolf inside of him as the beast readied itself for the hunt. He knew Beck was after him but that didn't worry Rixon, the instant he got into the trees he knew he could lose Beck. He was on the brink of changing and once he was in the shadow of the forest it would be easy to hide.
Roscoe had been on her way into another corridor when she heard a panicked noise behind her. When she had turned to face the owner of the voice, she couldn't help but take a few steps back. Cobie was standing there with a strange look on her face that made Roscoe's defenses go up. But when Cobie forced a smile for her, The relief was obvious in Roscoe's posture. The relief quickly vanished when Cobie said Rixon needed her. The only thing she was picturing was the night in the hospital when they met. Rixon full of bullet hole. Although Cobie reassured her that he wasn't hurt, she was still confused, "I don't understand." Roscoe yelled after her and soon her feet were moving and she was sprinting after the she wolf. The second her body exited the large oak front doors she was screaming, "Rixon?!"
Beckham had been running after Rixon when he heard the young nurse yell for him. He knew that if he had heard her, that Rixon would of too, "She's coming Rix, slow down so she can meet us." Beckham shouted to his friend.
