I am excited to announce we have a winner for our monthly selection for January 2019. It is A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court . Post your thoughts and comments about this book, let's start a conversation. Enjoy Reading 🤴

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) I read this so long ago I'll need a refresher...but I loved it when I was young.

Angela | 32 comments I have never read it and so glad that I remembered it to recommend

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) I think you'll probably like it. We have Twain's humor along with his gift for storytelling.

Angela | 32 comments each day I am reading segments. I love Twain's style, and yes I know that it was written in the 1800's when history was not as evolved as today. HINT> Christianity was not the norm in England until at least 100 years after this time. Pockets of christians but the populace was pagan. and I so far really love the description of the woes of wearing armor is priceless

Shannon | 1 comments When I was very young my Dad read this to my brother and me. I remember laughing, but I don't remember the explanations which must have been necessary.

So far I'm impressed with the layers of humor.

Some of it is straightforward. Like when Guinivere and Lancelot are making eyes at each other, and he asserts it would get you shot in Arkansas.

Some of it is more nuanced, like his utopian visions: school, freedom of religion (more or less), and newspapers. (Of course my reading humor into utopic visions may stem from our current cultural.focus on dystopic literature.)

But I am enjoying it a great deal!

Steven Drachman | 16 comments I'm probably joining too late - I read the Classics Illustrated Comic when I was a kid, but never the actual book. I hope I will catch up to the rest of you and have a moment to comment.

Henry (hankc) | 8 comments I read this book in high school about 60 years ago and loved it. It was my "go to book" for a book report in successive English classes.

mairiachi (twicebaked) I tried to get through it and lasted until ch 17, and I think I had trouble because I was reading it online and I always have a hard time with that, but it was just hard to get into.
