Karina | 1069 comments My goal for 2019 is to read the books I currently own and I have plenty of them. I am trying to not buy books (starting with the month of January, you have to start small) but I fell short in 2018 but I am going to make my goal this year!

What do you do with the books once you read them? I try to only keep the super duper awesome ones. Others that I really liked I try to send off to friends as a little 'hey I am thinking of you', and the rest I generally donate to Little Free Libraries.

I donate or pass onto friends all the books I finish. I used to keep favs but I very rarely retread books.

I donate them to the library. Or if they're middle grade I pass them to my niece and nephew.

Juli - it took me a very, very, very long time to get to the point when I realized this was right for me. For a long time I was very attached to my books. I think what made my mind shift was knowing how many books are out there in the world that I really want to read. So many that I am unlikely to reread a book an d if I really want to then there is always the library, audible, kindle, amazon, etc.

That's how I feel too. I can only think of a handful or so books that I actually re-read.

I do the same thing. I was a hoarder of books but when my husband and I decided to downsize from our house to a condo, I realized that I was just keeping books just to keep them. I still probably have around 200 books that I need to read, so those I am keeping (and I think I am underestimating) but I only kept the books that I absolutely love and donated the rest to my local library. Took me many years to do that but I feel better only keeping what I need. I also lend my books and don't worry if I get them back or not. I just tell my friends to donate the book or give it to someone else when they are done.

I too lend out books without the expectation of getting them back!

I have learned that it's best for me not to 'lend' things. I have a mindset of 'giving' it to someone and if they 'give' it back, great. But if they don't, it doesn't cause drama.
