Cherie's Series Killing Spree cont. 2019
Last year I managed to kill 9 series, but I also added 14 new ones. Of the 9 that I killed, 5 of them were new in 2018. My goal from last year was to kill 10 series. I will try for the same this year.
I added Time's Convert to my currently reading tracker but I am not sure this book is linked to the author's All Souls Trilogy - the characters are the same though.I need to figure out a way to track Orphan books from the series that I have killed previously. I added the list at the top because those are the ones that I own but it is not complete. I have them on my owned book spreadsheet, so maybe I really don't need to list them here. I never intended to track all of the titles, just the series. I guess the only way to prevent orphans is to only read series that are no longer having additional books written - or kill the authors.

I track my series on Fictfact but I wish they had a way to mark abandoned series. I also need stay on top of series I killed. I just came across one of my favorites and she's written 3 more books. I had to resurrect the series and put it back on my list. The struggle is real!
Lori Z wrote: "I track my series on Fictfact but I wish they had a way to mark abandoned series. I also need stay on top of series I killed. I just came across one of my favorites and she's written 3 more books. ..."I just mark the unread books as "skipped".
I get updates on new books from FictFact but I haven't updated it with all of my new series in a couple of years. I should do it one day, but I really hate sorting through all of the lists and marking all of the books off. The only series I have really given up on reading , after I killed her off in the original challenge, is Stephanie Plum, after I followed her for 24 or 25 books. There are several I have lost interest in. The worst part is that I still own books for them that I haven't read yet.
I get those updates too and apparently I have to pay more attention to them so I stay up to date on series I've killed off. I do pretty well keeping up with my fictfact list, since I've made it a habit to mark a book read, right after I mark it on goodreads.
I'm in awe that you're still going strong, Cherie - great job! I'm glad you have Armand Gamache on your list. :-)
Maisie Dobbs is now on the list. I really liked it. The war section was tough, but I have read quite a few accounts from WW1 the last two years. I was prepared for it, but not quite for the ending. I cried.
Lori Z wrote: "I track my series on Fictfact but I wish they had a way to mark abandoned series. I also need stay on top of series I killed. I figured that I would not get back to some of those series.
I made a few more changes and removed the previous series killed lists. They are listed in the 2018 thread. I removed the orphan books list.
@Jannene: I think that's a good idea. I'm going to delete my abandoned series off fictfact. If I ever pick them back up I can just add them back on. @Cherie: That's what I do. Adjust last years list then repost to this year.

Don’t forget to add a new fancy title!! Like “adding bodies to the pile”, “additional plots available”, or “Orphans R Us” for a few new ones.

I need to find a new Star Trek saying, but I am brain dead right now. I need help, Annerlee!
It has been a long week at work and it is only Wednesday. Everyone is back from Christmas and New Years break. It was nice and quiet last week.

I like it! Thanks, Almeta.
I finished Verses for the Dead. Pendergast is done-in again, until the next one. Jannene - you will like it ! No "strange" stuff.

Yay!! I can’t wait.
I finished A Drink Before the War today. It is official now. I have started a 2nd new series this year.Next up - the third book in the Winternight trilogy, to kill one.

LOL!! I am finishing a series this month and started one this month.
I was just looking at your list and realized that several books that I have read are a part of a series. I am going to have to add to my list!!
Jayme wrote: "I was just looking at your list and realized that several books that I have read are a part of a series. I am going to have to add to my list!!"Sorry, Jayme - that's what happens when you start looking at series lists - you end up adding to your own. ;O)
No, I just finished #2 in the series, but it was my third book. I read the 4th Gideon Crew book first, because it was the 2nd in the Ice Limit. (Preston/Child make some of their series so convoluted.) I was intrigued by Gideon in Beyond the Ice Limit, so I had to go back and start at the beginning. My library did not have Gideon Crew #2 and #3, so I recommended them - months ago. FYI - The company Gideon works for, is the same one that was in one or two of the Pendergast books. The boss is named Eli Glinn. He tried to hypnotize Pendergast when he was trying to figure out why his brother hated him so much. I never put the Ice Limit series on my list because there are only two books. (The original challenge did not allow two book series - although I do show one. Still waiting for Patrick R to finish his 3rd.) Clear as mud? :o)My library must have gotten some funding, because all of the sudden, some of the audiobooks that I recommended months ago are all starting to come through. I just got a notice about the Charles Lenox prequel that I recommended. I started listening last night. It is wonderful. I loved the Charles Lenox series. I am going to use The Woman in the Water for the bachelor task.
I finished The Lost Island on Monday. I got the answers I wanted and more. I will start The Pharaoh Key tonight. (My library just notified me that it was available to download. Hopefully, I can kill Gideon Crew before the end of the week. I loved The Woman in the Water, an orphan and prequel to Charles Lenox.
I saw you started Red Sparrow. Dom and I were going to start that but then I decided I had to read the next book in the Patrik Hedstrom series since they gave us one doozy of a cliffhanger.
I haven't started yet, just added it to my currently reading tab. I have it until Feb 12th. I can wait a while to start.
Gideon Crew still lives, but I have killed him off for my first series kill of the year. The last book was terrible!
Cherie wrote: "Gideon Crew still lives, but I have killed him off for my first series kill of the year. The last book was terrible!"Congrats!!
Thanks, Jannene! And don't ever think about wasting your time reading them. I liked Gideon but the stories just got worse and worse.
My hold on the 2nd Maisie Dobbs book came free on Friday and I listened over the weekend. It was a great 2nd book and the narrator made it more realistic with her British voices and it filled a spot on my yearly challenge, with birds on the cover.
I am also listening to Daughter of Smoke & Bone - I did not think much of it at first, but now - wow! I think this one is definitely going on my list.I started The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye.
I own the ebook, but the audiobook is narrated by Simon Vance. How could I pass on listening?
Both of these have a place on my movie challenge task list.
Finally - I finished the 2nd book in the Corfu Trilogy. I really enjoy the author's stories - his family not so much!
Cherie wrote: "Finally - I finished the 2nd book in the Corfu Trilogy. I really enjoy the author's stories - his family not so much!"I read that series when I was younger. Loved it!

CURSES you two! You made me look.
Almeta wrote: "CURSES you two! You made me look..."I love how he writes about what he sees around him and what he discovered when he was exploring as a boy. I bought the trilogy when we were doing the Geo challenge. I still have the 3rd book to go, and it will also be on my Movie challenge - for the island. I think I have looked up every, bird, bug, reptile, and amphibian he has ever mentioned, including the locations on and around Corfu.
Daughter of Smoke & Bone is now on my series list. Daughter of Smoke & Bone was a great story of angels (Seraphim) against demons(Chiamera), romance and a new YA Fantasy for me.

No doubt I will too! ☻
I finished The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye and Darkness, Take My Hand.I have downgraded my stars for Millenneum #5 back to my original three stars. I will read the last book after it comes out, just to be done with the series. I don't think the new author has the same punch as the original series author. I wonder if he really intended all of the pieces to be wrapped up or not. We will see.
Kenzie & Gennaro - too much much. I am just numb.
Now, I can finish the Winternight trilogy.
I added Red Sparrow Trilogy to my list, since I read Red Sparrow for the Movie Madness Challenge. I am also adding The Unwanteds Quest, now that my library has purchased the second book. I read the first book in the series last December. At that time, there were only two books. The third book is to be released at the end of February 2019. This is listed as a middle grade series.
Thursday Next is now on the list. After buying two sets of the first five books at various book sales, I finally managed to read The Eyre Affair. What a great read. I loved meeting Mr. Rochester and visiting inside of Jayne Eyre with Thursday! I want a homegrown Dodo too.
