Just a heads up, I'll be filming my review of Intensity on February 1st.
(I changed it up a bit from 2018 so we would all have the full month to read the book).
If you want your review to be included in the video, make sure it's posted by the 1st (the 4th at the very least, that's when I'll edit the video).
As with every month, there is no pressure to have your review up by then! Take your time!

Sorry guys, I never got around to reading this one. My plate was too full. Hopefully I can read it in the future. Glad to hear it was good! :o)
I've once read this book, the Dutch translation of it, more than 20 years ago. I wanted to read this again, the Creepy Book Club gave me that chance. I ordered the HC English version of it, so that I didn't miss anything due to translations.I liked the fast pace beginning until the mid, where Chyna is being captured by Vess. Then it drags a bit (not much), until her escape the gear kicks back in ! This is a well written book, the action comes clean out and the psychological side is really well done. I also liked the constant switches between the different points of views of Chyna and Vess. I wished that Koontz just kept this book on a high octane level all the time.
As no other Koontz can vividly describe a scene that makes the pages come to life, Intensity is no exception ! If you never read a Koontz novel before, this is a good place to start !

I liked the character arc that Chyna had. We typically make "survivor" and "fighter" synonymous, but Chyna is an example of someone who just survives the horrors that happen to her (hence her mantra "Chyna Sheppard, untouched and alive). When she encounters Vess and sets out to save Ariel, she starts her transformation to "fighter" and the "untouched" part of her mantra becomes slightly less true. Chyna borders on frustrating as she has MULTIPLE opportunities to escape and go to the authorities, yet she doesn't. It's a good frustrating because as a reader we have to earn that scene where Chyna finally kills Vess. And it is SO SATISFYING.
I will say, for how intense the final battle was, the falling action was too much for me. I kind of would've preferred Koontz just end it rather than give us a bunch of snapshots of Chyna and Ariel in her varying states of comatose. That sounds mean, but the long resolution let me cool down too much from the climax. It took away from the high I felt after Chyna sets Vess on fire.
Overall, this was a great read (especially for the first Koontz work I have ever read).
