A friend of mine is looking for a satirical short story in which a cancer doctor develops tougher lab rats, that can smoke a huge amount, eat all sorts of dangerous stuff, without developing cancer. By googling, I found a few references to a satirical piece published in Scientific American, but no title, date or author. Anyone else remember this? Might have been originally published (or republished) in "Analog" magazine, or an anthology, too.

The Rats of NIMH is a children's book about a mouse and her family who request help from the rats of NIMH. Definitely not what the OP I looking for. Now I have a sudden urge to watch the movie again.....
Yeah, Mrs. Frisby isn't what I'm looking for. This might be a story called "Health Food" by W. R. Thompson. Now all I have to do is find a copy of the May 1987 Analog.
Yeah, I'm also now sure it isn't it, but it's always worth a shot to suggest it. ;)

Thanks. I used google books to find a brief excerpt and confirmed that this is _not_ the right story (though it is one I've read). The search goes on.
Here's a link to a mention of something that might be the same story http://kennedysdisease.groupee.net/ev...
I think I found it. "The Man Who Cured Cancer" by Carol Deppe, from Amazing Stories in 1986 - these excerpts https://books.google.com/books?id=jnw... match my friends description pretty well, but I'm waiting to hear from him before I close this out.
