Jannette Vazquez | 9 comments For the third book I chose “Invisible Emmie” by Terri Libenson. This book reminded me of Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. This graphic novel was very fun to read mainly because of all the detail it contains. I liked that Libenson draws very detailed and adds objects to make it seem more realistic. For example, she adds the semi functional water fountain or a dead mouse on the hallway. I also had my 9-year-old son read this book, he enjoyed it. It is cool how we see Emmie explain her fears and her securities, how she is a very quiet and shy. Yet she still has a best friend and a crush. I thought is was nice how her life changed in one day. I didn’t have a favorite character, but I did understand Emmie more than the other characters. I was also shy, and I have been a quiet person. I think every girl has followed their crush and every girl looks up to the popular girls. I loved the ending it was a total twist. Libenson did a great job in portraying someone’s insecurities and also how having an imaginary hero is normal. Katie helped Emmie a lot she was like her other half that she wished she was like. This is a great graphic novel for young kids, my son got to see other people’s insecurities and then we discussed what he would have done if he was there. He is the very opposite of Emmie, so this book helped put himself in other people’s shoes.
