So I realized that I somehow never read this (*gasp*) and was planning to do so with the group... but I've just discovered I don't have a copy (mystery of why I never read it: solved). So I won't be joining with everyone after all. :'(
I'm looking forward to everyone's comments, though - I'm curious to hear who makes cameos! Do tell. ;)

So I love this novella! I really enjoy seeing more of Presha, and the sex scenes are super steamy and actually believable. It’s a quite refreshing read.
I always felt a little sorry for Preshea in the Finishing School books, so it’s lovely to see her get a happy ending.
This novella made me love Preshea. I like her in Finishing School, but when I read this the first time. I totally fell in love. Also I wish I had a real life Gavin.
Finally the time is here! I ended up reading ahead and finishing it weeks ago, so I was waiting impatiently for this discussion to open. Can I say now how much I enjoyed this entire affair. Both Preshea and Gavin are brilliant, and Iove that we get to see her backstory.
It reads like a mixture of spy&detective novel with very nice addition of 'lemons'.
For them I kinda want them to be happy and kick arse in Scotland. For myself I would not be against seeing them again, maybe performing some joint venture, or mostly leading normal life but just lending a hand when a hand needs to be lent etc.
I do totally adore this story.
Finished Poison or Protect today...glorious!How do I adore you, Ms. Carriger? Let me count the ways...
You always make me laugh, that is never in doubt.
But with Poison & Protect (and your other books, too), you make me weep all the best tears, and yearn for all the best love! You are a masterful authoress, and I will always read everything you write.
Gavin is my new daydream! I think a man as perfect as he can only exist in fiction, but fictional lovers are always the best - they never let a girl down! Thank you for creating him.
And Presha - I am enamored! She is so wounded, and wounded women rarely permit themselves to be happy...and yet, here is Presha. Gives me hope!
And you dedicated this novella especially for fans like me who would happily walk off any literary cliff to which you lead me! My life is better because Gail Carriger’s books are in it.

Thank you so so much for this. Preshea and Gavin are particularly dear to my heart, and I am so delighted when they become such for a reader as well. I'm so glad you too a chance and read it!
I really enjoyed seeing Preshea again. I loved all the Finishing School gals and was happy to get some backstory on Preshea. I loved the sort of Agatha Christie-esque setting of a houseparty with intrigue in this story. The chemistry between Gavin and Preshea was electric. I loved how she manipulated the whole house to her bidding. The happy ending was also great. I love that she allowed herself to be loved and to be happy.
I'm looking forward to seeing who is the next of Madamoiselle Geraldine's Ladies of Quality to get a follow-up. Personally, I hope it's Dimity...I want to see if she got to fullfil her dreams of being a society lady.

Oh hooray!
I was listening to Ms. Carriger’s Facebook Live from this afternoon, and she mentioned how important P&P is for young hetero women who are just finding their sexuality and learning about a healthy relationship with sex.And while I absolutely agree, every budding young lady should read P&P as a great example of what sex can/ should be, I also think it’s such an important (possibly even more important) example for hetero young men to read. Gay boys need to read Gail’s books, too, for all of the positive relationship/sex examples, but hetero boys in high school really need to read more Gavin!
I taught High School for a long time, and I think of all the boys I wish could have read a Gavin story! How many lives of young girls would have turned out differently if more of my hetero boys had read P&P?
Raising three young boys of my own, I’m constant obsessed with how masculinity is expressed in media. I love that when they reach that birds & bees age, and if they identify hetero, I can hand them this book and we can discuss a positive model of a man who respects and honors a woman’s sexuality.
Thank you Ms. Carriger! Both young lads & ladies will benefit from reading Presha & Gavin’s story!

Something I find very damaging about het relationships is this idea that the man has to take charge, and also has to somehow read the woman's mind and know what she wants. We hurt both side of the equation by shaming women for knowing what they want and asking for it, while simultaneously shaming men for not taking charge. No wonder people are so messed up about sex.
