I read the Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell for my historical fiction Goodreads review. This was a story about a 17-year-old girl named Carrie. She is a girl from the 1980s who lives with her widowed dad and two sisters. She dreams of becoming a writer in the suburbs although she lives in a small town so she feels she needs to leave her town and move to New York to become successful. The story goes on to tell us about her life as a senior in high school, falling in love with her long time crush, dealing with the death of her mother and friends betraying her. I thought this author did a great job of making us as the reader feel very empathetic towards Carrie and all that she went through. I really enjoyed reading this book and I think it was because it reminded me a lot of my time in high school. I hung out with some of the popular girls and I can totally relate to the part where all Carrie’s friends were losing their virginity and she was holding on to it. I think this story is a great read for young adults but I definitely think there should be an age limit because it talks about things little kids shouldn’t read. However I think it would be perfect for Jr. high and high school girls to read because they could probably relate to the story in some way.
