For this review I decided to read the book named Prisoner of Night and Fog by Anne Blankman. Compared to all the books that I have read all semester, this is the one that has stood out to me the most. It may be because it was a historical fiction or because these topics interest me the most. This book takes place in the 1930’s. The main character, Gretchen Müller grew up in the National Socialist Party under the wing of her uncle who has kept her family cherished and protected from the darker side of society every since her father has lost his life. The book took a spin off when it mentioned that the uncle was the one and only, Adolf Hitler. As we may all know, Adolf Hitler was not a good man. He hurt many people and separated families due to his own beliefs. He believed that people should look a certain way, if they didn't, they should not be alive. Later in the book, Gretchen meets a jewish boy who she is very interested in who claims to know the truth behind her father's murder. Gretchen and David take the risk of making a further investigation on the murder even if it jeopardizes their life. This book was interesting to me because it tells a true story about what a jewish boy who lived through this jeopardizes his life to expose the truth about a dangerous man. The author made sure to capture the reader's attention by wording Gretchen’s story in a way that kept us engaged.
