75. DNF
(2/20/2011). I quit at 68 pages intending to come back to it, but I'm not that interested. Glad to get it off my TBR shelf. This marks the top of El Toro. I'm going to hang out here for a while instead of moving to the next challenge. I'm not sure I'm up to Mt. Everest this year, but I still want to see how much further I can get.
78. DNF
(2/18/2013). I made it to p.45. This is one of the last Kindle Daily Deal purchases I need to get through. I've discovered it's not the best way for me to find books that I will enjoy and quit following the daily deals. I'm hoping that means I'll have a better year next year with the books I've purchased!
79.
(9/4/2011). This was one of the oldest books on my tbr shelf, but mainly because I've been hoarding the ones by Heyer.

I really like Octavia Butler, but found that she is someone you usually have to give a lot of room before the story takes off. This one in particular I almost gave up on, but it got better as it went along. Still there is some unsettled feeling about the book, the main character is so dark!
I probably should have added, that Wild Seed is one of my least favorite books of Butler's. I gave her book 5 stars because as an author, she deserves more recognition. I was very sad when I learned she passed away.

I actually liked her writing a lot, but I really don't like dark stuff, and I felt like that was where Wild Seed was going.

(12/2/2012). Epic Fantasy, 1 Star. I didn't want another DNF so forced myself through this one. Skimmed a lot.
85. DNF
(4/1/2013). I read 50 pages / 25% but was bored by all the singing and getting sick of the MC's obsession with wanting to be pretty.

(4/17/2013). 4 Stars. This might be the most imaginative fairytale retelling I've ever read. It's dark, but really good.

Leveling up from Mt. Kilimanjaro! What's helping me stick to this challenge is a shelf that exclusively contains all of the books that qualify this year. I've consistently been choosing all of my books from that shelf with rare exceptions (favorite author's new release, something a family member wants me to read, galley for review, etc.). I'm not even allowing myself to look at my other 'to read' shelves so I don't get tempted. It's actually working. It's a miracle.
My shelf of books completed for the challenge is here: 2014 Owned TBR Challenge.
All of my books are ebooks, and the date is my purchase date. DNF books that I include for my total, I read at least 50 pages before removing them from my TBR shelf.
