I read Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler. I heard about this book during a book commercial in class and it seemed like an interesting read. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this book and could relate to it in many ways. This story is about Min, the main character who recounts the relationship she had with her ex-boyfriend Ed, and all the reasons why they broke up. Min saved items from their relationship and she hid them in her closet. While I was reading this part I had to laugh because I use to do the same thing in high school when I started dating someone. I also really liked how Min wrote a letter to go into the box about all the items and why they never should have dated in the first place. I enjoyed the fact that Min was able to overcome her emotions, pain, and hurt that came from the breakup. Being a girl myself, I know how hard relationships and breakups can be especially when you’re so young. I think this would be a perfect book to give to a young girl going through a breakup because it shows how you can overcome the hurt and move on even when it seems impossible at the time. I know my younger self would have loved reading this story.
