Stephanie Soriano | 9 comments For this review I decided to read the book Matilda by Roald Dahl because I have previously seen the movie and wanted to figure out if the book was any different than the movie. Based off of what I read, Matilda is a four year old girl living in a home with her parents. Her dad works at a car dealership and her mom who is self-centered and does not take good care of Matilda. Both her parents are too busy dealing with their own lives that they do not take any interest in her school life. As a four year old, she decides to teach herself how to read. When she discovers the library she betters her reading skills and further on discovers literature. As she gets older she is enrolled in Crunchem Hall Primary School, where she runs into the worst headmistress alive, Miss Trunchbull. She is described and evil and vicious. The book and the movie are both similar in the way that they describe the scenery and the characters. In both the book and the movie, Matilda is tired of the mistreatment and decides to seek revenge on her parents and Miss Trunchbull. The book and the movie both perfectly describe the damage that can be done to a child’s mind if they are being neglected. Although the sequence of this story is not the way a true life story would look like, Matilda ended up being a smart educated work due to her own effort to teach herself how to read and keep herself educated.
