I really felt this book by Rupi Kaur did an excellent job of showing the complete journey of heartbreak. I read this book years ago and I chose it as one of my saturation books because it has inspired me to express my experiences of love and what I've learned from past relationships through my writing, as does this collection of poems. Rupi talks of her abusive relationships and describes what she once thought love was. I, too, believe that sharing painful experiences based on "love" is something that people can learn from by reading it, and possibly something that can prevent the audience to make the same mistakes. This book really taught me that giving hints of relief to the audience can be very helpful in telling stories of hardships. Rupi Kaur used to believe that the ones who broke her were capable of fixing her, when later on she came to the reality that you must fix yourself. As she learned to love herself, the story had a sense of wholeness and tension relief before she went on to tell the rest of her journey. Of course, happy endings aren't always the reality. But the idea here is that holding on to hope can do a lot more for you than you may think. And that brings me to my last lesson. Some endings may be seem very grim or abrupt. This is just simply the reality in certain cases, though. And a book based on true stories is pure because it is relatable and raw. Sad endings can often be the end, while letting your mind go wild with future predictions, yet empty endings can also lead into another story. If it is fictional (or nonfiction), you could always leave a book off hanging, hinting at future stories to come.
