So far not so bad. The writing style is so different then what I am used to. Perhaps because this might be a middle grade book? I am 100 pages in now and I think Alanna is a bit annoying. But she is a bit spoiled so I kinda see it. I do enjoy meeting the new characters and I love the names of the towns the author has come up with. Nothing exciting is currently happening so I don't have much to update on.
I have to say that the writing style is not as complex as I'm used to. This makes me think it's for a much younger audience. I haven't gotten very far, so not much is happening.
Once you get passed chapter 3 in the audio book it gets so much better. It actually made me laugh a few times. But I will say that the beginning was boring and kinda made me not enjoy the book.
I finished the book. In my opinion it did take me awhile to get into it. It was alright. The beginning was very slow and a bit dull. And I'm not a fan of the writing style the author has. Maybe because it was written before I was born haha. But the ending was pretty good. It had a bit of a twist and I am a bit curious to see where the series continues. I might pick up the second book just to see if it gets any better since I am curious.
I have to say that I find this book kind of boring. Khrystyna keeps telling me it will get better, but I'm waiting for that moment. And I'm not a big fan of the writing style.

Yeah I hate the writing style as well. Honestly the best part of the book was the last 30 minutes of the audio book.

I have to say that I did not like this story very much. Yes, the last 30 minutes were interesting, but I don't think that's enough for me to continue listening to the series. I would definitely have to think about it.

Yeah. I honestly didn't like 80% of the book. I thought it was boring, nothing was happening, and Alanna was just complaining. It's like.. what? But I do like all the characters. And I like the names of the cities and such. The last 30 minutes were interesting.. and that's probably the only reason I have for picking up the second book. But IDK. I'm like a bit confused now. I really hate the writing style but it was written like a long time ago so I get. But.. I did change my star rating from a 3 to a 2.

I finished this! This was a book I wouldn't have picked up otherwise and I wasn't expecting very much. This was better that I expected this would be. This was for younger readers and it was quite clear that Alanna was a bit childish. I liked the castle, atmosphere. This wasn't long book and the story went forward after every chapter. This was okay-read for me.
