I was wondering if any one else had seen the 1982 animated movie based on this book. I loved the movie as a kid and bought it in 2014. I remember it holding up back then and now I want to rewatch it after reading the book.

Film historians often say 1939 was the greatest year for cinema, but for my money it was 1982, especially for an SFF fan. I spent nearly every weekend in the theatre and frequently during the week.
I mean, look at this list of films that came out that year:
The Last Unicorn
The Dark Crystal
The Secret of NIMH
Conan the Barbarian
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
The Road Warrior (Mad Max 2)
The Thing
Blade Runner
Beastmaster
E.T.
Poltergeist
Tron
48 hrs.
Quest for Fire
Night Shift
Annie
Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid
An Officer and a Gentleman
Sophie’s Choice
Tootsie
Diner
The Verdict
First Blood
Das Boot
Gandhi
The World According to Garp
The Missionary
If You Could See What I Hear
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Creepshow

I think Flight of Dragons was also 82. I loved that as a kid, but I have never seen The Last Unicorn. I feel like I have a memory of catching the end, but it could have been something else entirely. I recall fire and a white horse and islands maybe, but that's all just jumbled head garbage.
Side note: I often hear Das Boot reffered to as a film, but was sure I watched it as a tv series. Memories, they lie!
Ruth... Das Boot is a 1981 film (released in the US in 1982), and there's also a 2018 TV series called Das Boot which is a sequel to the original film.

Both excellent, beautifully drawn, both with great soundtracks.
Das Boot was originally a German TV miniseries, later a BBC miniseries. It was later cut down for a theatrical release in the US and other countries. On DVD you can now get the original which is essentially a 300 minute movie (not split into 6 episodes).

The Japanese animation company Topcraft that animated the Last Unicorn for Rankin-Bass, as well as the earlier animated Hobbit movie. Went on to be a little know animation studio named Studio Ghibli. Mike

I see they also did Flight of Dragons and ThunderCats.
This is like when I discovered J. Michael Straczynski (the mind behind the Babylon 5) also worked on my childhood favorites She Ra and Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors.
Suddenly everything makes sense.
