Thank you, I was going to ask, but since we've mentioned book art in many feeds, I thought a topic would work. Is this folder okay?
Thanks, Jen--I actually have a folded book made by my artist friend, who sells them in her lovely store, the Wild Acorn. I commissioned her to do MOBY DICK for me, since it's my favorite book :-) It looks much like this:
Here's another example of book origami:
"Vintage books are folded, origami style, to create unique wall art."
The most creative artist in the field, imho, is Brian Dettmer, also known as the "book surgeon" for his technique, sometimes called "book autopsies". "Using knives, tweezers and surgical tools, Brian Dettmer carves one page at a time. Nothing inside the out-of-date encyclopedias, medical journals, illustration books, or dictionaries is relocated or implanted, only removed. Dettmer manipulates the pages and spines to form the shape of his sculptures. He also folds, bends, rolls, and stacks multiple books to create completely original sculptural forms. "My work is a collaboration with the existing material and its past creators and the completed pieces expose new relationships of the book’s internal elements exactly where they have been since their original conception," he says. http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/b...
Youtube has an interesting 10 minute video with Arabic subtitles, showing Dettmer at work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb_Gl...
His website is: http://briandettmer.com/
And here are some of my favorites of his altered books:
