Finished reading it a bit ago. Watched the movie many years ago but shamefully I’ve never read the books. Overall, I loved it. Exhilarating, captivating and haunting. I give it a 4.5/5. The most interesting parts were all the chapters on Lecter and most of the ones with Clarice. There were times with the FBI procedural portions that weren’t as engaging for me.
I don’t know how much of my rating is biased in that I already knew what would happen (granted it’s been years since I last saw the movie and thus didn’t remember every subplot).
IMO, this novel is rightfully deemed a classic.
*was a fan of the tv series as well on NBC

I'm so glad you enjoyed this one as well, Angelo! I was a huge fan of the movie, until I read the book, and then I proceeded to watch the movie again and it didn't hold a candle to the book!
I read this series before it was voted for the group read, I must say the books are a 100x better,I'm a fan of the films and they are greatly made but like it normally works out the book are definitely better I think personally it's the who having to use our imagination(the body suit of skin ) yes your imagination took you down a darker road didn't it???lol
To me the TV series Hannibal which is based on all the book stuck with them and followed the rabbit down its hole for it's twisted ways.
I would definitely read these again.
Ugh... I am kicking myself for watching this movie decades prior to just now reading this book. Rookie Move!!
Finally have my final thoughts up in a review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Overall, I enjoyed it. 3.5 stars rounded to 4!
Damn, man. This novel wound up being SO much more than I thought it would be...had I known how great the prose would be, I would have hauled it off my shelf much sooner!I got this in mass paperback when I was like, 12, but saw the movie before I cracked it open, thus, it remained unread until it was a group read...In fact, seeing it was to be an UPCOMING GROUP READ here in this group, I actually sorta cheated and read it in like, the 1st 3 days of June. (I swear I only meant to take an early PEEK but Harris sucks readers in!) So, I ate it up and then digested it until now.
There's a LOT packed into this book = elements of classic crime novels, a look at the justice system in America as well as government institutions like the FBI, many in depth examinations of psychology and human nature, a lot of sciences, including forensics, biology and-can't forget-those 2 awesome insect doctors/scientist characters that helped (and crushed on) Starling and injected some humor into the plentiful, *hardcore bug facts* presented to readers. (Imagine the amount of RESEARCH Harris must have done, eh?)
I should stop going on about this novel for now. I have to run outside at the moment since I've been holed up in here on a laptop in the basement avoiding company to talk about 'Silence of the Lambs' (which might be a factor in why I am single). Gonna go try to fit in with the norms. I have more to say though- I feel like I could gush about this one for weeks. --Jen from Quebec :0)
