Steelheart (The Reckoners, #1) by Brandon Sanderson
Is this your first time reading it or is it a reread?

Don’t forget to use spoiler tags for major plot points. And happy reading :)

Amy | 237 comments I've already read it and it is a fantastic series. I don't have time for a reread but would like to join in with the discussion.

Diane | 1234 comments This is my first time. My husband is a huge Sanderson fan and has read everything written by him. I know he will be excited to have me read this also

Rhonda (rhondas5) Just downloaded it on Audible. It's currently on sale for only $5 with member pricing. I'm excited to "read" it!

Melanie | 1911 comments I got the Audible book too! Since it will be a reread for me, I thought it’d be nice to approach it in a different format.

Alexander Keane | 3 comments Reread for me after finishing the series last year. I personally loved the "bad metaphors" quirk of the MC.

Diane | 1234 comments I too have the audible version but I Alston’s have the kindle version so I hope to do both.

Melanie | 1911 comments I’ve only just read the prologue and chapter 1. I forgot just how good the opening to this book is. :)

Diane | 1234 comments I’m starting tomorrow! I can’t wait.

Yeah the scene between Steelheart and his dad is just done so well.

mich I'll try to start reading this sometime soon :)

message 12: by mich (new) - rated it 2 stars

mich ok I actually started reading this just now. Just finished the prologue. It sure hooks you in right away! (view spoiler)

Diane | 1234 comments I love the line that says something like: she could make a blind priest turn his head, if he weren’t blind. Ok bad metaphor I’m not good with metaphors.

I was listening and literally laughed out loud while I was driving. ;)

Melanie | 1911 comments :) The bad metaphors are a running gag through the whole series. And there just delightful in their own special way.

Diane | 1234 comments I am really enjoying the sense of humor in the narration and love the audio.

Jennifer | 456 comments Diane, you have me wanting to do it audiobook style!! Lol
I've read the whole trilogy twice I believe. I have my friend's Audible account so I can listen to Steelheart on there :) Excited to give it a shot in this format.

Diane | 1234 comments Honestly I am inexperienced with audio books and really have only been consistently doing it since summer started. That being said I’ve listened to some and it was a bit of a struggle, I’ve listened to some and would have given up had I not known the story and loved it already. Some were ok and some good. This is the best for me so far! I get a great visual from listening as I do with reading. I am not distracted or letting my mind wander. I would recommend trying the audio version for sure.

message 18: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy | 237 comments Oh man. I might have to listen to the audio book as well after that. I'll look into getting it.

message 19: by Melanie, place holding for a future mod (new) - rated it 4 stars

Melanie | 1911 comments I’m about halfway through. It is my second read, but I read it long enough ago that I only remember the plot in broad strokes, so I’m still pleasant surprised. Plus I know where some of terms end up in the overall trilogy, so it makes for a great reread to notice how the ultimate ending is foreshadowed in this first book. Particularly, EVERYTHING Megan says or does.

The book definitely is worth a re read. I agree Dianne; the audio IS very good. It captures the narrater’s geekiness and humor perfectly.

Amy | 237 comments This is my second read but I'm listening to the audiobook this time and I agree, it's great. I didn't read it that long ago so it's still pretty fresh in my mind but I am really enjoying it anyway. I love the world, characters, ideas, everything really. Might be bumped up to a 5 star after this like the rest of the series. Not sure why I gave it 4 originally. I love Megan, she is so cool. I also love the action sequences in this book which is funny really since I normally zone out a bit in action parts.

Diane | 1234 comments I just finished this and am so glad it was our choice for a group read! I am going on to the next book now.

Yeah, I've definitely been watching Megan and Prof a lot closer on this read and noticing some things.

Amy | 237 comments I just finished. the first book I have reread and I loved it again. thinking of rereading (listening) to the others now.

Diane | 1234 comments I am now Listening to Calamity (The Reckoners, #3) by Brandon Sanderson I really like listening to this series and am so glad Steelheart was our group read for this month.

message 25: by Melanie, place holding for a future mod (new) - rated it 4 stars

Melanie | 1911 comments This really was a great reread. The quality acting in the audio book definitely added to the reading. I really do feel warm and fuzzy inside. Great choice! I want to listen to the next books in the series, but I don’t want to pay full price for the books, so I’ll probably wait to acquire them.

Diane | 1234 comments If you get th e version it usually makes the audio a decent price

Jennifer | 456 comments Also, check with your local libraries. At mine you can "borrow" audiobooks through the online app Overdrive.
