In 1986, Eddie and his friends are just kids on the verge of adolescence. They spend their days biking around their sleepy English village and looking for any taste of excitement they can get. The chalk men are their secret code: little chalk stick figures they leave for one another as messages only they can understand. But then a mysterious chalk man leads them right to a dismembered body, and nothing is ever the same.

In 2016, Eddie is fully grown, and thinks he's put his past behind him. But then he gets a letter in the mail, containing a single chalk stick figure. When it turns out that his friends got the same message, they think it could be a prank . . . until one of them turns up dead.

That's when Eddie realizes that saving himself means finally figuring out what really happened all those years ago.

Oh man, I did not like this one at all.

The ending: (view spoiler)[What? I just.... not my favorite. There were so many times the book could have been super interesting but then it felt like every time a mystery happened, it was solved in the present day after all those years? (hide spoiler)]

Nicky seem to be a nice person now, but I'm still not sure about her. I do like her character though! (hide spoiler)]

I definitely enjoyed this one and I loved how (view spoiler)[it was all told from Ed's perspective looking back. There was a bit much going on, the whole thing with Mr. Halloran could've been easily left out imo (hide spoiler)].

32% - (view spoiler)[I like the way this book is jumping back and forth between the current day and back when they were kids.

I thought maybe Nicky was the one who had been killed, but I guess not.

Somethings off with the teacher. Don't like him..

Oh and that scene with Sean assaulting Eddie was vile. I'm pleased the teacher managed to intervene but my gosh, that was scary!

49% - (view spoiler)[So Sean died. I can't say I feel sorry for him or Mickey, but yeah it's definitely changed some dynamics. And then in the present day with Mickey being found in the river. Some creepy shit is going down.. (hide spoiler)]

Finished - (view spoiler)[Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? The final twist at the end was just so unnecessary haha! I can't believe that Eddie had the head the whole time, and that it was Eddie who was drawing the chalk men. Just didn't make any sense!!

Also, the fact that the reverend managed to keep secret that he was sneaking out and that he could walk and talk and wasn't as brain damaged as he made out to be for 30 YEARS is unbelievable!!!

(view spoiler)[I think the book needed a scape goat for the 1986 timeline, so Mr Halloran fit that perfectly. I agree that this was a good book, but the resolution was a bit off, (hide spoiler)]

Who just starts tossing rocks at people? Someone could get seriously hurt, I am pretty sure he is making up some plan to get Eddie back and I'm not going to like it at all. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[There is only one thing I can say after finishing this book, and that is dissapointment. I just expected more after that build-up. It was okay, probably a 3.5 rating for me. I was just waiting for this spectacular ending, and it was basically just everything I had expected. :P (hide spoiler)]
