I started this earlier today and I absolutely love the writing style. So far I've read 19% and it's a difficult one to put down :)

I started this today. Read before (some time ago) and so looking forward to revisiting.

I started, too. I'm on a staycation, so I can devote myself to reading the whole day!

I did start listening to an audiobook but I didn't really like the narrator so I'll have to try to find a physical copy of this one at some point

I've just finished the book and gave it 5 stars. It was exactly the kind of story that I enjoy which was added to by the really nice hardback edition that I acquired. The only question I have ... why have I taken so long to get around to reading this?

Exactly what I thought.. when I read it last year. I loved the dated aspects of it - with a menacing, superior Soviet Union.

Exactly! That's the appeal of these kinds of book to me. I love getting a sense of different attitudes, morals and fears...history isn't just about statistics.

Sorry for butting in on this thread as I haven't taken part in the challenge but I have read this book several times and I love it today as much as I loved it the first time I picked it up some 30 *hmm* years ago. I think it has aged pretty well. It is dated, I agree, but the issues it raises are as relevant today I think, as way back when. If you enjoyed this might I suggest reading Death of Grass by John Christopher too? It has the same flavour but fewer man-eating plants!

I've not read this yet but I'd like to butt in and say that sometimes dated details help to place the book somehow. It might just be the English student part of me but I love it when you can tell through the book when it was written and the significance of that =)

I read this a while ago. Really good book. I love the concept of killer plants. Let's face it carnivorous plants are a little creepy. In my opinion the 60s was a fantastic decade for sci fi.

Definitely! And the films! BTW, is there a film adaptation? I'd love to see this, but as old as possible. I love it when films are a bit dated :)

I have not watched any but I know there have been a few tv adaptations which are available on dvd.

Yesterday I picked up a copy of this from the library. Have wanted to read it for ages but never seemed to get round to it. Only read the first chapter so far but I`m really enjoying it.
