Summary
Takedown by Allison Van Diepen, the book has 280 pages. The publishing company is Simon Pulse. The main character of this story is Darren, he is trying to get his family a better life and also he is trying to bring down tony the main antagonist of the story. The other characters in the story are Jessica, smalls, biggie, and detective Prescott. There are many significant places but at the beginning of the story is serious, the characters are serious because what that are into is a matter of life and dead. The story is mainly about Darren, he is the narrator of the story. He goes to juvi for drug trafficking. Tony the leader of the notorious gang does not help him get out of juvi. Darren spends two years in juvi and when he goes out he works with the police to bring down tony and his gang. Through the story Darren faces multiple challenges and meets a girl named Jessica. He has to protect her and himself as well. He takes down deals and criminals after all is finish he will have a chance to start over.
Theme
The major theme in the story is crime. The whole novel is based on crime and how the protagonist is trying to get out of it. In page 21 the narrator states “... I got a crime scene right in the middle of the projects.” These quote backs up the theme of this novel. The main protagonist is trying his best to get out of the city of crime but he has to turn in the dealers to the police first. There are many indications that crime is the central theme of the book. In page 117 it says “… I felt the car driving on my heels like it could mow me down any second.” It is just another of the reason why crime is the major them in the story. The protagonist is almost got killed by a car.

Symbol
The main symbol in the story is drugs. The protagonist of the story sells drugs to get money for his family. Darren joined tonys gang which they are dedicated to selling drugs for a living. Through the the story everything is about drugs and violence. Darren is trying to get out by turning in some guys to the police but mean while he is still selling drugs to get money for his family and himself. All this novel is about drugs so therefor it is a major symbol.
