Yes, you do have to click 'see all product description to see the blurb. Let me save you the effort, Kath.'My name is August. I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse
Auggie wants to be an ordinary ten-year-old. He does ordinary things - eating ice cream, playing on his Xbox. He feels ordinary - inside. But ordinary kids don't make other ordinary kids run away screaming in playgrounds. Ordinary kids aren't stared at wherever they go.
Born with a terrible facial abnormality, Auggie has been home-schooled by his parents his whole life. Now, for the first time, he's being sent to a real school - and he's dreading it. All he wants is to be accepted - but can he convince his new classmates that he's just like them, underneath it all?
Now featuring a brand-new chapter told by bully Julian, WONDER is a funny, frank, astonishingly moving debut to read in one sitting, pass on to others, and remember long after the final page.

August Pullman wants to be an ordinary ten-year-old. He does ordinary things. He eats ice cream. He plays on his Xbox. He feels ordinary - inside.
But Auggie is far from ordinary. Ordinary kids don't make other ordinary kids run away screaming in playgrounds. Ordinary kids don't get stared at wherever they go.
Born with a terrible facial abnormality, Auggie has been home-schooled by his parents his whole life, in an attempt to protect him from the cruelty of the outside world. I noticed one of my students reading this. As she's a very reluctant reader yet was picking it up to read at every opportunity in class, I reckoned it had to be something special so I grabbed a copy. It's a truly lovely and heartwarming book.
I'm looking forward to discussing it with those who choose to read it.
'Everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their life'Feel free to take yours Patti for making this recommendation. Loved it!
I found August's viewpoint interesting but hearing the story from the perspective of the other main characters was fascinating.
I cried and cheered in turn and had I not had cramp from sitting so long would certainly have stood as the tale came to a close. WONDERFUL!
It was the perfect feelgood read Patti!I see there are a couple of spin offs, will have to investigate though I think the author will struggle to better this one.
Am very much in the Book Of The Month spirit currently :-) So am now reading this too. 11% through and loving it so far.
Kath wrote: "Just bought this. It's rare I have time to read a group book, let alone two!"A fantastic effort, Kath!! ;-)
Kath wrote: "At 8%. Good, isn't it? Don't you love the little kid?"I'm at 14% and he's still adorable.
I read this book for my local book club and I was really not looking forward to it. I expected it to be a bit cheesy and I'm not usually keen on American books. However, I loved this book, it was really amazing, it was inspirational yet also down to earth. Happy reading guys.

Finished it last night. here's my review - I won't be putting it on the blog because it's not indie. But I've put it everywhere else!https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Patti (baconater) wrote: "Oops! Sorry Natasha!"If you're apologising for any spoilers, there, Patti, I've got my hand over the screen, so I've seen nothing. I've been following this thread with one eye half-open. I don't want a hint of how it all works out!
Patti (baconater) wrote: "No spoilers, I promise! I was apologising for keeping you awake all night!"Oh cool! A most enjoyable night. Such an addictive book.
Just got a Facebook message from a colleague.Hi Patti, how are you doing? I have started reading Wonder.. it has made think of my own life.. will talk to you next week. Thank you for it:)
So pleased she's enjoying it as well!
Oh yeah! I can see how you might think it'd go in that direction!Meant to ask a few days ago...
Do you lot think we should have a separate spoiler thread for Wonder?
If there's interest, I can sort out a few literacy circle discussion sessions.
We'll need to accept roles if it'll work.
Actually I didn't, Natasha, although I did read the other book you mentioned. I thought it was a real strength of Wonder that it took other points of view.
Yes, the walking in other's moccasins was a strength, I feel too, Kath.It managed to not be too saccharine, though. A very fine line to walk.
Patti (baconater) wrote: "Cool. Go ahead and open one, Natasha."
Done :-)
