I have not but I intend to read it soon after I buy it. No idea when that will be but I have heard good things about it. I had no idea the movie adaptation had been made! And judging by the trailer you posted Daniel Radcliffe seems to have done a great job :)
My children want to see it together since they've all read the book. I found out last night that you can actually already watch the movie in certain formats, but I want to wait. I love the cinema experience.
Oh definitely, it's totally different watching it at a movie theatre. I don't use piracy, partly because I am clueless and also because I really enjoy going to the cinema or just getting the proper dvd and watch it in my living room. I don't have one of those fancy tvs that you can connect your computer to eh.
I loved the book. I watched the movie on On Demand last weekend.
I, um...still love the book at least...

It's not that bad a movie. People who haven't read the book will probably like it very much. But for me, they took out what made the book magical. They took out the very best things. And replaced them with clichés... But on the whole, it's a decent movie. Just not a decent adaptation.
Oh I totally get it. I remember getting that feeling with Stardust movie and book, for instance.
Well that's decided then, I will have to watch the movie before I read the book or I will be thoroughly disappointed.

Yes, that's probably the best way. (I did that with Fight Club and wound up being disappointed in the book! I don't think you'll be disappointed with the book in this case.)
I run a movie/book club at the library that has been going on for about 4 years, so I have gotten very good at separating the movie and the book. I can love both even when they aren't very similar. I can also hate one or the other, but that's not the goal! ;)In this case, I really loved the book so am looking forward to the movie, even if it's just for a couple of visuals. I've found that the movie adaptations I like the least are adapted from books that contain fantastical elements. Not to toot my own horn, but I can almost always imagine it better in my mind than they can show me on screen, but there are almost always at least a few visual elements I can enjoy. In this case I want to see how they show the snakes.
I'm looking forward to hearing what the rest of you thought when you see it.
Well, I still haven't read the book but I have now watched the movie. I have to admit I was a bit disappointed. For one, I guessed who killed Merrin waaaay too early. (view spoiler).
I felt some things were just for show, though I don't know if they're in the book too. The last few minutes to me were just *yawn*, computer stuff yay graphics, especially (view spoiler). It was just too much.
I also didn't get why, if people are supposed to do what Ig suggests, the bartender didn't obey him when he told him not to (view spoiler).
Meh, another movie focused a lot on special effects to me and not so much in plot. Now I am wondering how much the movie and the book have in common and if it's worth picking it up.
I do agree that I don't want to know what my relatives really think of me, as I read in some review hehe. That bit was heartbreaking. And think Radcliffe could have shown a bit more emotion there, but overall he did a good job.

The ending was different in the book. A lot was different in the book, though the general storyline was the same. I think you'll enjoy the book, even knowing what you do from the movie.
The movie is not playing at any theatres near me so I may need to break down and watch it on a different medium. It sounds as if the movie varied from the book quite a bit.The one thing I was really looking forward to seeing on screen as far as special effects go were the snakes. I don't want to spoil, but were there snakes in the movie?
There are snakes in the movie, but they were better used in the book. A lot of snake stuff didn't make it into the movie. (I was surprised later when I did a text search on "snake" in the ebook at just how many mentions/appearances of snakes there were. I had forgotten in all the time between when I first read the book and then saw the movie.)
One of my favorite things from the book was the "relationship" between the female Timber Rattler and Iggy. I guess that's what I most wanted to see, but there really was a lot of "snake stuff" in the book. I just thought the snakes would be ok with CGI or whatever because they shouldn't be that hard to create, but would be a pain to do with actual snakes.
Not having read the book I cannot comment thoroughly, but I believe that relationship wasn't much expressed in the movie. He did appear with a snake around his neck, caressed it sometimes, but that was about it. I am sure the book conveys a lot more feeling, as is the norm.
Yeah, the relationship was lost in the movie. And the speech to the snakes. And...a lot of wonderful things.
Aaron(Reblast) wrote: "I hope they make a film of Joe Hill's Heart Shaped Box as well."I think that would lend itself to the screen a bit better than Horns.
I just finished watching this with my youngest son and am genuinely upset at how awful it was. I cannot think of a worse adaptation. Not one!For those of you that saw the movie, but didn't read the book, please, please know the book is genius and this was...not.
Oh good. I'm not alone in being really disappointed. THEY TOOK ALL THE MAGIC OF IT OUT! All the very best things about the story—gone.
Yes, the book's ending stayed with me long after I'd finished. The movie's ending had no resonance.
Eheh ok I will make sure to read the book, just not sure when.
See, this is why sometimes I just prefer to watch the movie first, then wait till I forget it and read the book ^_^ That way I can treat them as seperate things and not be disappointed!

I can't wait! The book is told in a very visual way so I think it will translate to the screen very well.
