Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments I'll kick it off. I read some one-star reviews of this book, and although I utterly loved it myself, I have to say that I agreed with the complaints, one of which was that all the POVs were written in the same voice. I'd noticed that myself, but hey, who cares?

Anyone else notice this? Care? Think otherwise?

Jane (beetlejane) | 82 comments The only POV that annoyed was Justin's with no capitalization. Apart from that I really enjoyed it. Throughout the book I thought there would be a "bullying/picked upon/threatned" incident, I never thought it would be from older kids, which actually bought the story to the ending which I really liked. Didn't find it too sweet at all.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Neither did I. I gritted my teeth at the lack of capitalisation in that part but I'm sure many teens don't use anything other than txt spk. We were spared that!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm currently reading this to my class of 11 year olds.

As we've not yet received the book order, I'm using my iPad and projecting the text onto the white board so the kids can read along if they wish too.

Good grief, how the kids are loving it! Huge groans when we get to the end of the lesson and we need to stop.

Gotta say the lack of punctuation in Julian's bit makes it hard to read aloud.
It did bring up a great discussion about the importance of punctuation, though.

So many great discussions coming from the book, from poverty to divorce, acceptance, bullying, dating, Star Wars, just all sorts. It's hard to get them settled back to listening to the book once they start discussing something but I must if we're going to finish the book before the end of the term.

On Friday, the kids started a 'precepts' display in the main corridor. They had taken it upon themselves to google them and asked if they could print the ones that spoke to them. Of course I said yes. Even more exciting, several have been writing their own precepts.

I heartily recommend sharing this book with the young adults in your life.
