Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Hello, everyone! So, for November's & December's Books of the Month, we did a poll to see how we all wanted to do Christmas-themed books for those two months. The members have spoken (haha), and doing 1 "regular" read and 1 Christmas read in November & the same in December won by one vote - so these next two months will be done a little differently.

For nominations this month, if you want to nominate for each category ("regular" and Christmas), please nominate one of each. If you just want to nominate for one category, that is fine as well. I'll keep a list of each separately, and do the random pick separately as well.

Remember to check out the guidelines under the "Book of the Month Reading" section if you're not familiar with them, and to check out the shelves for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 on our group bookshelf if it's something you're not sure if we've read as a group or not. Also try not to nominate a book by an author that we've read this year. Also, remember that for a title to be included in the running, it has to be released for 6 months or more. Also note that I do include "seconding" nominations.

If anyone is interested in the results of the poll, here it is: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1.... Thanks to everyone who took the poll!

Nominations will be open through October 31.

Nominations as of October 29:
1. Noah's Sweetheart by Rebecca Kertz
2. For Such a Time by Kate Breslin (seconded)
3. Valley of the Shadow by Stephanie Grace Whitson
4. Underlying Grace: A Journey to Find More in Life by G. Allen Mercer
5. Promise Me This by Cathy Gohlke
6. Carolina Reckoning by Lisa Cox Carter
7. Stretch Marks: A Novel by Kimberly Stuart

Christmas-themed Nominations:
1. The Christmas Pony by Melody Carlson
2. Christmas Roses by Amanda Cabot
3. The Spirit of Christmas by Cecil Murphey
4. The Doctor's Christmas Quilt by Kathi Macias
5. Christmas Jars by Jason F. Wright
6. Christmas at Harrington's by Melody Carlson
7. A Wild Goose Chase Christmas by Jennifer AlLee

Regular book nomination

I'm not sure if this is aged enough...I nominate Yankee in Atlanta which was published June 1, 2014 and will be six months old in December. :-)

Yankee in Atlanta (Heroines Behind the Lines, #3) by Jocelyn Green

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 447 comments I will nominate The Christmas Pony by Melody Carlson and Noah's Sweetheart (Lancaster County Weddings #1) by Rebecca Kertz .

Staci, can this one be read as a stand-alone, you think? I've only read the first book in this series.

It's been a while since I've read the first two in the series. My memory though is there are unique characters in each book and no connection other than heroine behind the Civil War battle line. I think it'd be fine as a stand a lone read.

I checked in with the author and she said the books should ideally be read in order as there are some character appearances that cross over between books.

As a result, I withdraw my original recommendation and replace with For Such a Time.

For Such a Time by Kate Breslin

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments I nominate for regular: Valley of the Shadow by Stephanie Grace Whitson

and for Christmas: Christmas Roses by Amanda Cabot

G. Mercer (gallenmercer) | 1 comments Regular nomination: Underlying Grace

Underlying Grace: A Journey To Find More In Life

Have you ever questioned 'why' and 'what' your life is about? Did you ever wonder if you had a purpose? Have you ever asked God these questions? Did you get an answer?

I challenge you to read this fiction story, and then ask yourself the same questions.

Underlying Grace A Journey To Find More In Life by G. Allen Mercer

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Hi, everyone, everything should be updated now - sorry I've been in break mode and just not been on the laptop much this weekend.

I forgot to note that nominations are open through October 31.

That's a good one! I read it a year or two ago, but it's a great story for a discussion; I wouldn't mind reading it again.

Good to hear about Promise Me This! I looked and realized that I have it on Kindle :) I'm hoping the library will have Christmas at Harrington's.

Saving Amelie sounds really good, too! Glad you enjoyed it :)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments Will have to check the library for Promise Me This. Both Christmas reads are books I've already read. I will probably jump in to the discussion, but have too many Christmas reads on Kindle and my bookshelf to re-read anything.

Loraine, Promise Me This is lending enabled, and I'd be happy to loan it to you if you can't get a library copy. :)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments Thanks so much for your kind offer Beth. The library does have it. I'll get it from there and perhaps someone else might need a Kindle loan.
