If you search my GR catalog, you'll see my tags don't include Western, instead just the HF-USA umbrella.
In the county library, when processing incoming new books, a cataloging choice was whether to apply a Western spine label. Lose potential readers to “I don’t read Westerns syndrome,” … or lose potential shelves browsers seeking new Westerns?) Two spine labels were used for LP and Western, placed above the standard Dewey label. (And sometimes cover useful jacket info.)
(Aside: For shelf management purposes, about six years before retiring, I combined the library’s collection of Large Print Westerns with the regular size print Westerns. Where side-by-side versions sat, statistically, the LP was more frequently borrowed.)
