This was so much fun. I forgive Horowitz for his shameless self promotion, (You did know that he wrote the scripts for Foyle’s War, has a best selling children’s book series, and… well, yeah) because in this book he casts himself as the mildly stupid sidekick of the brilliant detective. It’s barely believable self-deprecation, but very clever. And, mildly amusing. It was also an interesting glimpse into the creative process of a talented writer who produces so much very good entertainment.

I was entertained. This was a classic detective ‘who-done-it’. It followed the formula without feeling formulaic. I enjoyed the humor of the industry name dropping. I was no better at identifying the murderer than Horowitz was himself. I look forward to the next book.

This is funny, to me anyway, because I am reading a book (view spoiler) (don't want to spoil it for anyone) where the author inserted, not himself, but the book itself into the story! I was sitting there last night shaking my head and thinking, "is this clever, or is it just plain stupid!" I still have not decided, as I am only a few chapters in
