Another World Book Club discussion

This thread is for discussion of Chapters 1-11 of Throne of Glass. Please be respectful of others who haven't read beyond this point yet. Other threads are for the following sections of the book:

Hello everyone! Sorry I had a work meeting and couldn't make it to the first book club meeting at the library. I have read up to Chapter 11 and here are my thoughts thus far:

To be honest, this isn't my favorite genre of book. BUT I am pleasantly surprised to be enjoying it. As I got into the book I noticed that it reminds me a lot of the Selection Books by Keira Cass. I have read that whole series. (If you are enjoying this book, you will probably like those books, too)

The parallels I have found between the two include a stubborn, head strong female main character (Celaena) and her two bad boys (Prince Dorian and Chaol Westfall) that she basically hates now, but I'm sure will turn into a wonderfully complicated love triangle later in the book - At least I hope it does. Haha

Both books also include similar descriptions of castle life and seeing how the rich live from a lesser ranking person's point of view. For example, Celaena makes astute observations of how things are run in the castle and how the rich dress and eat and do pretty much everything in excess. In contrast, she reflects upon her unusual upbringing and experience as a slave in the salt mines.

What do you guys think so far? This is my first time being in a club forum so I'm not exactly sure what I'm supposed to type in here. I hope I'm doing it right.
