Paperbacks are where it's at! They are more comfortable for me to hold, and I like the feel and look of them. I avoid buying hardcovers unless it is a new novel that I really want to read.
I only buy them if it's a keepsake type item, like a complete boxed series like Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, or the illustrated edition of Angels and Demons...
I love hardbacks! I love taking off the covers to see what’s underneath the dust cover, even when I’m not buying the book I do it! I also really like the structure the books has; I like paperbacks don’t get me wrong but sometimes they are so flimsy it gets on my nerves. All depends on the book and they say to be fair 😊
No, unless it's the only format I can get my hands on. I wholeheartedly agree that paperbacks are more comfortable to hold! The same thing goes with library books—I always avoid borrowing hardcovers if possible.
Yes! If I have a choice, I pick the hardback 9 times out of 10. Most of the paperbacks I have look used, while the hardbacks look pristine still. Maybe that's why.
I have a non-fixed rule that I prefer books in the e copy exempting those where visuals , like maps and such are critical.Where I can beat the Kindle price with a used or used/new copy I get that one.
Oddly in the used category the hard back is often cheaper than the paperback.
A problem with buying used is the problem of re selling.
For passing on paperbacks I recommend Operation Paperback
I do like Hard Covers , but I usually buy them at Goodwill or Thrift stores, or when they hit the Bargain Section at Book stores.
I looooooove hardcover books! Sometimes they're more difficult to read than paperbacks, especially if it's a gigantic book, but there's something about holding a hardcover book that you can't beat, lol!
I prefer not to. I prefer the trade paperback, and I'll take the mass-market paperback as a second choice.
I like reading a book then putting it away on the bookshelf once I'm done with it. My most recent read was truly a nice story. It's Mission 3-R by J. Michael. It's about how a treasonous General Ben Jackson steals a top secret trillion dollar time machine and leads a group of rogue African-American soldiers back in time 400 years, to prepare his African ancestors for when the first colonists set foot on the dark continent, and prevent the slave trade from taking place. The real kick to this story is all the deceit and conspiracies he uncovers on his journey. A friend recommended this book and I couldn't put it down once I started. You should definitely check it out on Amazonhttps://bit.ly/Mission3-R
If I get a hardback, it is nearly always used because I can't find it anywhere cheaper. Or it is a gift of a book I am going to keep like Everymans Library editions.
If I get a hardback I normally plan on keeping it for a while but I buy paperbacks most of the time because they take up less space and are just better to read with in general
I get hardbacks of old, long out of print books I can't get otherwise. I like them, don't get me wrong, but they need a lot of room!
I used to buy more hardbacks, but lately I like paperbacks because they are so much easier to carry around and they fit in my purse. Recently the only hardbacks I've purchased are first edition, signed books. So that's more of a bookshelf collectible type book for me.
I don't like the weight of hardbacks, too heavy for my wrists. I love being able to smell the book and I can run through the pages of a paperback very easily. Also, they are very expensive. So paperback wins for me!
I think that some are afraid to admit they buy them, not me. I and enjoying each cover and they are mementoes of my life. Getting older and not afraid to enjoy!
A few years ago I switched to reading on my Kindle. I used to buy hardbacks and paperbacks and always had boxes of books around waiting to be donated or taken to be resold at used bookstores. That is no longer an issue for me. I love having well over 1200 books available on my Kindle in a format that easily fits in my purse. Plus, there is the advantage of being able to adjust to a larger font as my eyes are no longer as young as they used to be... smile.I have a sizable personal library for which I almost always buy hardback books. I especially enjoy fine bound (leather or slipcovered or special edition books) and signed first editions I began collecting for my home library after reading a quote by Jorge Luis Borges, "I have always imagined Paradise to be a kind of library." I am now less than a year from retirement which is the purpose of my personal library. I have been looking forward to enjoying my books in my upcoming retirement.
i love hardbacks, but i can't really afford them. so i only buy them when they're in second hand bookfests or on sale
I only buy hardbacks if the paperback hasn't been released yet and I really want to read it right now. (I don't really know what it's like in the rest of the world, but in Germany almost every book gets published as a hardcover and somewhat around one year later the paperback edition gets released.)But I like paperbacks more, because they are lighter and just easier to read.
No. As much as I love them, they are insanely expensive in my country. Paperbacks are like far, far more cheaper than hardcovers.
Not anymore. As much as I enjoy the feel of a book in my hand, as I've grown older, digital books besides taking up no space allow me to adjust font size and the back lighting helps with reading not to mention ease of using a dictionary. I still have far too many hard covers and paperbacks that I purchased and haven't read yet that I still need to catch up on,
Not anymore unless it's a favorite. I am almost 90% kindle reader. I like that I can adjust the font to the right size for my old eyes. Plus it's light and easy to take with you everywhere, I can also read in the dark. It took me awhile to make the transition though. I still love the smell of books.
I prefer hardback books. I can usually get the for less through used book stores like BetterWorldBooks.com than if I bought them through Kindle or at a store. Then I pass them on or leave them in coffee shops etc for someone else to enjoy. I started a GoodReads book club not too long ago that people can join to tell what they thought of the books they find. so far, it's just me a two others, but it's fun.
I used to like hardbacks more than paperbacks but now it’s the other way around, they’re just so heavy
I don't really have a preference, hardcover stay in good condition longer, but they're a lot harder to read in bed. But a book is a book, if I want to read a specific book I don't much care what format it is in just so long as I get to read it :)
