Angie (angiemb) | 231 comments They are offering 4 audiobooks for $14.99 for new members. It says that you will receive 3 audiobook credits, plus the audiobook "Circe". Deal is good through Dec. 2. It looks like the only way to get the offer is through the referral code link below, not just by visiting the website.

Do you know if you can listen on another app or only on libro.fm app?

For what it's worth, I was gifted three credits on Libro earlier this year, so I was unsure if my new-but-existing membership would qualify. The code worked, and I'm now a legit paying member! Thanks, Angie!

You can download a zip file of the mp3 to transfer to whatever device you use as well as listen on the app. I've never tried their app.

Faith | 507 comments On Independent Bookstore Day, April 25th, you can get 2 free audiobooks through Libro.fm

Robin P | 1791 comments My local independent bookstore reduced their hours and now has closed. They are encouraging online orders or using Libro.fm. and they are offering an intro deal. (Maybe they have that all the time, I don't know.) I assume that other independent bookstores have the same situation. Here's the message I got

Local Bookstores Need Your Help Now
#ShopBookstoresNow
Coronavirus is impacting independent bookstores near and far, but you can make a difference with a Libro.fm membership. When you start a membership with code SHOPBOOKSTORESNOW, you’ll get two audiobooks for the price of one ($14.99), and 100% of your payment will go to A Room Of One's Own Bookstore .

So although the last thing I need is more audiobooks, I am going to do this as a way to support one local business, at least for now.

Robin P | 1791 comments I am finding that the app for libro.fm works better than audiobooks.com or Scribd and even Audible in that the book I am listening to is automatically showing and starts playing with just a click. With the others, I sometimes had to find or even re-download the book.

message 9: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 1791 comments Also just found out that you don't have to use the app. It is possible to download files to a computer and from there to an older iPod or other mp3 player. Also libro.fm always has some sale books, 4.99 and other, but they never advertise them, even to members, you just have to go to their site. I'm not clear whether non-members can purchase those books.

message 10: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 1791 comments In addition to above, I found out that yes, you can purchase sale or non-sale books without a membership. I just got Girl, Woman, Other for 3.48. They don't advertise, you just need to go to the Libro.fm site and check what is on sale.

Barbara K | 49 comments I joined Libro.fm last year for the year end sale, and I also like it. The app works really well.

message 12: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 1791 comments They also have incredible customer service. I didn't think I could do the download to computer & iPod and the CEO himself contacted me to explain it!

message 13: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 36 comments Thanks for the info. I plan on being a Libro member in December. The majority of audiobooks that I want now are all Audible Originals. In the future, I will not start any Audible Original only series. Even if the series is written by a favorite author. After 8 years with Audible, I might be done with them over Audible Originals. I feel like a hostage. I don’t have a local bookstore, but I know which one I will support through Libro.

Robin P | 1791 comments Libro.fm currently has a sale on of 250 books, prices vary. You don't have to be a member, though if you are, you get an additional discount. The books can be downloaded to listen on an mp3 player or you can play on your phone/speaker, etc. same as Audible.

Thanks Robin! The prices are great for this sale.

Barbara K | 49 comments Thanks for the tip! I found a couple from my TBR.

Understandable, I have to constantly remind myself to check what I've bought through libro.fm so I don't buy them again somewhere else or just forget to listen to them.

message 18: by Barbara K (new)

Barbara K | 49 comments I try to keep my Goodreads "waiting on audio" bookshelves updated. I have one for Audible, one for Chirp and one for libro.fm. I emphasize "try", since as I'm typing this I find that I didn't update the libro shelf for the 2 I bought on sale last night!

message 19: by Contrarius (new)

Contrarius | 373 comments Heh.

I keep an Excel spreadsheet of all the books that are rising somewhere towards the top of my TBR. That's currently 901 books. LOL!

For each book the spreadsheet includes genre, the book's general rank on the TBR (I have three main ranks: 0 for soonest, 1, and 2), author, title, place in series if it's a series, year of publication if it's the last couple of years, whether I own it, and where I can get it (library, Scribd) if I don't own it. (I do have another 797 books on the spreadsheet with a rank of "z", but the info isn't as complete on those books and that list is just stuff to think about later.)

Without that spreadsheet I'd be totally lost!

Wow, you are organized. A few years ago some people were having the problem of their Audible library disappearing so I started a spreadsheet. I have now added the libro books there too. I track if it's been read, title, author, narrator, length in hours/minutes, the rating after I've read it, genre, number in a series if applicable. I also did start a GR shelf for TBL so I'm actually in pretty good shape now, but as you say, I have to add the latest ones I bought. Right now I show 537 books, of which 154 have not been listened to. But some of those are short freebies or freebies of classics, which I probably won't listen to.

Karen (rhyta) | 166 comments I just joined Libro.fm and like how easy it is to download the files to my computer. I am done with Audible after 11 years. The change to the enhanced files was the deal breaker for me. Will be nice to have some money go to my local bookstore too.
