I've just noticed the two challenges have names now. I assume this challenge is read 50 books on boat maintenance.
ARGH. The suspense is driving me MAD.
yay! the challenge is out, I am going to try and do the full thing, 54 books though is a pretty tough challenge.
I've signed up to all 54. I could live to regret this
What a fabulous challenge! That must have taken some time to compile Paul. Think I'll sign up for 26 to start with and see how I'm getting on mid-year.
Great challenge. Think I will need to be a bit organised for this one as I really want to read the full 54. So, apart from the Book Vipers monthly reads and the trilogy, I will probably tackle one suit at a time, and the jokers at the end
I'm afraid that I don't understand how to read the picture/grid. I can't read 54 books. So I opt for a smaller challenge.
And I don't understand what a single suit is. Does that mean I have to take one symbol at the top and look what is under this one symbol? So reading from the top to the buttom?
And when I pick a number I have to read what is besides the number, so I have to read from right to left?
And what about the jokers?
I'm sorry, Paul for being such a nuisance, but I have a hard time understanding (card)games.
I have picked some books already to read, quit pleased I could fit cannibalism into the food theme. hehe
This one will definitely take some planning, but I like that in a challenge! I'm off to look properly now. Thanks Paul :)
Some questions though:
the book viper choice for particular months - is that a set book, or can you choose from the usual monthly reads?
Book about a monarch - does it have to be a real monarch (ie a history book) or could it be a fiction book about a monarch (eg Philippa Gregory style)?

From one of the fiction, non fiction or classic books that month.
Any monarch, fictional or otherwise
Any monarch, fictional or otherwise
By victorian era, do you mean victorian britain or can the Luminaries count as it is set in the late 1800s in Australia?
The intention was for books in the UK, but it is the right era as you say. I was putting that in the book over 500 pages.
Brilliant! Thanks Paul. I'm already so excited about this challenge, I have planned 21 of the books I am going to read
20 picked so far. I don't want to pick too many already, will see how the year goes and what books I come across
another question....trilogies! needing help here as i have read a fair amount of trilogies... finding it tricky to pick one. can we read three books of a series or must it be just a trilogy. have read lord of the rings/divergent/hunger games/ two of the maddadam books/fifty shades so unsure !
Super excited everyone! I love putting the books together almost as much as reading them! Going for 27/54.
Charlotte - I'm going for Maze Runner, which is meant to be similar to Hunger Games and Divergent? or The Testing is a great trilogy if you enjoyed those series
haven't been able to view it properly (teeny phone and no lap top) but I'm not sure I get it , though I do know it's highly/defiantly unlikely I'll get to read 52 books in a year!!! Well unless the star Chip, Biff and Kipper!!!!!

Another great trilogy was Jane Gardam's series about the end of the British empire in Hong Kong, very funny and poignant. I'm not really into sci-fi/dystopian but my daughter has the Hunger Games on her Xmas list so I might sneak a look.
I'm planning to read Louis de Berniere's South American trilogy for this challenge and as I've had them a while they can also count for the dusty shelf!
The more I look at the challenge the more I want to do the whole thing, but for now I'm just going to put a few in my list and keep adding as the year goes on.
The book of the month for January can be any of the three listed starting on Jan 1?? The Luminaries, Jerusalem, Dorian?
Thanks for the ideas....will have to check them all out. The other idea I came up with with Titus Groan, the Gormenghast trilogy but no idea how good a read they are.
Really looking forward to doing this challenge. I don't think I'll have the time next year to read as much as I have this year but will give it a go!
I don't belong to a library though and no plans on joining so I'm hoping to take liberties with that category and read an ex-library book!

I suppose Catherine will need several days, Jason. Do you actually have sales of library books in England? In Antwerp, we have a sale of library books once a year.
