Okay, I'm giving it another try but I'm so nervous! I just can't with books that make bad things happen to children. :)

Just finished The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Scott Turton (2018 Costa Book Award--First Novel)
I was going to read This is How it Always is for the Jan award but didn't get the book from my library hold in time. So, I had to take the shortcut way out this month and read The Polar Express. because none of my other Jan reads lined up with an award this month. The Polar Express won a Caldecott Medal in 1986My review of it is found here. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My blog post on it can be found here https://titlesurfingwithtraci.blogspo...
Maybe I will get lucky and get the Laurie Frankel book done before month end

Ecellent choice Traci - I saw that it was the 2018 Costa Award Winner for Best Novel - I just finished it too - it came out of library hold too late for January for me ... but it was definitely interesting. I liked it and am still thinking about the characters days after I finished reading it!

1. The Costa Book Awards presented each January, recognizes books written by authors based in the UK and Ireland. The prize has five categories – First Novel, Novel, Biography, Poetry and Children’s Book – with one of the five winning books selected as the overall Costa Book of the Year.
A winning book from any year, in any of the Costa categories, would count for January.

3. There are several awards, but the Alex Awards is one of Tanya's favorites to read books from. This award is given to ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults. From those winners she recommends the following books...
