Shirley | 4177 comments Hi everyone :-)

It's time to nominate and vote for our January Fiction Group Read.

The 'rules' are:

- One nomination per person
- First six 'seconded' nominations will be put in a poll where members can vote on their choice.
- The book should be fiction but should not be a 'classic' novel, as we have a separate bi-monthly classics read.
- The book nominated should be available in paperback form.
- If you nominate a book, you cannot second one as well (and vice versa).

Please post your nominations on this thread, which will remain open until 11th December or until six seconded nominations are made. The poll will be set up until 15th December and the winner will be announced shortly afterwards.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask on this thread :-)

Pink Okay, I'd like to nominate A Girl Is a Half-formed Thing by Eimear McBride which won the Bailey's Prize for Women's Fiction in 2014, among other awards. I have a copy on my shelf and I've heard many great things about it, but I've also heard that it's as complex as Ulysses and after skimming the first couple of pages I can see why. The style of writing is unlike anything I've seen before and I think it's one of those books that needs your full attention. It's a short book, but has few and very mixed reviews on GR, so I'd quite like to read and discuss this one with others.

Elisa | 206 comments I know that it is massive, but I really would like to nominate The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton, winner of last year's Man Booker Prize and liked by sooo many people

If this goes to poll and wins, we would definitely have to make it a two month group read!!

message 7: by Monica (new)

Monica Davis This one might be too long as well, but I'll nominate Sarum: The Novel of England.

I'll second the Luminaries :)

The Luminaries is long but a really good read and actually relatively quick. I wouldn't re-read but would enjoy discussing it

I would like to nominate Purple Hibiscus. I have loved another book I read by this author (Half of a Yellow Sun) and this one looks excellent as well
