Each month we will give you a list of 50 themed words to find in your books.

*There is no limit to how many words you can get per book.
*For each word please post a link to the book, the author, the date you finished it, plus the page number/location and a partial sentence where you found the word.
*Any reasonable forms are accepted.

EXAMPLE -
Apple - A Touch of Ice - L.J. Charles (1/10/16)
I had a weakness for apple pie, heavy on the cinnamon... (loc. 245)

Any genre/format is fine.
Re-reads are OK.
No page minimum.
To count a book towards the challenge you must read the majority of it after the start date of the challenge.
Please post a partial list of the challenge when you sign up.

At the end of the month please re-post your whole challenge as a new message so that we can award your Hall of Fame badge!

(Even if you don't hit the level you were aiming for, you can still claim a badge for the words you did get.)

Love this theme!

43/50

On Nineteen Eighty-Four The Story of George Orwell’s Masterpiece by D.J. Taylor (3/4/20)

1. Apple - In this context, it is tempting to claim that Orwell's most far-reaching on-screen impact came by way of a television commercial to launch the Apple Macintosh home computer whose main airing took place during Super Bowl XVIII on 22. January 1984. (p 207)
3. Bird + 35. Nature - At the same time, always keen on 'nature' and the advantages of the outdoor world, Orwell was deeply absorbed in the lofe of Jura: the domestic notebooks that he began to keep at this time are full of enraptured accounts of the local bird population, or the difficulties involved in hauling a stranded cow out of a bog. (p 97)
4. Bottle - Flory in Burmese Days (1934) is a disaffected colonial timber merchant with a weakness for the whisky bottle and a native mistress, convinced that the can redeem the sterility of his life by marrying a newcomer to the remote provincial township where he frets out his leisure hours. (p 36)
7. Clothes +34. Moss + 49. Woods - A letter to Eleanor from September 1932, which recalls "that day in the wood along past Blythburgh Lodge ... I shall always remember that, & your nice white body in the dark moss", is remarkably close to the account of Julia tearing off her clothes so that her body "gleamed white in the sun". (p 114)
11. Envy + 33. Money - In some ways the purple birthmark that disfigures his face and his lack of money are quite as much a part of his disaffection als the colonial system which his work upholds, and when the aristocratic army officer Lieutenant Verrall threatens to dispalce him in Elizabeth's affections it is significant that his immediate response is straightforward envy. (p 50)
13. Eyes - Skull-faced and with bulging eyes, the man is clearly starving. (p 34)
17. Glasses - Burton, who had demanded that his boiler suit should be hand-stitched by a Savile Road tailor, is grave and sacerdotal, willing Winston to trust him, offering glasses of wine and hope with a half-benevolent stare. (p 207)
19. Grass - The camera lingers over blades of grass. (p 178)
38. Paint - A letter of 14 April to Robert Giroux paints an optimistic picture of "being out here before summer is over" and having "my next novel mapped out". (p 145)
39. Parrot - "They sit in the reception hall waiting for their brooms to be issued to them and making as much noise as a parrot house, and then they have wonderful choruses, all singing together als they sweep the passages." (p 73)
44. Snake - The friends who visited Orwell on Jura in the spring and summer of 1947 were convinced hat he was happy there, quietly adapting himself to a routine of work about the farm, amusing the three-year-old Richard, occasional trips to nearby rivers in search of trout, gleefully extirpating the area's snake population, and trying to hatch frogspawn in a jar. (p 120)
46. Trees - "In the ragged hedge on the opposite side of the field the boughs of the elm trees were swaying very faintly in the breeze, their leaves just stirring in dense masses like women's hair. (p 42)

The Ghoul Vendetta (SPI Files, #4) by Lisa Shearin (3/4/20)

5. Bug - This part of the Hudson River was deep enough to hide a kraken, and I had no desire to look over the side and see an eye the size of a VW Bug staring back at me. (p 313)
9. Dress - By now my hair ha dmore or less dried, and so had my dress, but dry didn't get rid of the eau du river aroma I was presently wafting in all directions. (p 43)
10. Emerald - The Tuatha regarded Rake with eyes as bright as emeralds. (p 384)
14. Forest - The shortened version of her first name was similar enough to Kylie, and she used O'Hara because it was the name of the state forest near the shore of Lake Ontario in Upstate New York where she was born. (p 90)
15. Frog - The night should have been alive with crickets, frogs, cicadas, and night birds. (p 363)
16. Gem - A couple of month ago, there'd been a robbery at a Forty-seventh Street gem dealer, where trolls glamoured as three wealthy woman had walked out with half a million dollar's worth of rare, colored diamonds. (p 199)
21. Ireland - He was a fisherman back in Ireland. (p 83)
24. Jealousy - "There is much jealousy in the old man's inner circle, and throughout the family, Bela is not popular." (p 104)
32. Mint - "It's mint." (p 243)

Break the Rules (The Flanagan Sisters #1) by Claire Boston (3/6/20)

18. Grapes - "This one is quite tangy, and made from a blend of grapes." (p 64)
20. Insects - The man was an insect she wanted to squash. (p 185)

By Any Other Name (By Any Other Name #1) by Tia Fielding (3/6/20)

37. Onion - Thom was chopping peppers and onions for dinner and trying to thing about how to be rational about this. (loc 480)

The Look of Love (San Francisco Sullivans, #1; The Sullivans, #1) by Bella Andre (3/7/20)

36. Olive - Surrounded by hundreds of acres of vineyards, the land directly around his home had been landscaped into a botanical paradise full of ancient oak trees, mature olive trees, fruit trees and a classically designed vegetable garden on the side of the house. (loc 1354)
45. Tennis ball - "But when there was no one around, I would play witht he tennis balls I'd collected." (loc 2812)

A Pie to Die for (Bakery Detectives #1) by Stacey Alabaster (3/9/20)

47. Turtle - She rolled over, revealling her Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles t-shirt she wore as a pajama top. (loc 465)

In the Absence of Light by Adrienne Wilder (3/13/20)

26. Kelly - This past year, it was Florida, Aunt Kelly wanted to show off her new house; next year, it will be Tennessee, near Gatlinburg. (p 247)
28. Leaf - Every so often, a fat leaf would flutter down and get cought on the windshield. (p 15)
29. Lettuce - People acutally began to bunch together over by the lettuce to watch us. (p 106)
42. Pepper - They were dressed so stiff I wasn't shure who the lawyers were until the man with salt and pepper hair and the woman spoke. (p 255)

Invisible Women Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado-Pérez (3/15/20)

31. Markers - It is seen as possible for there to be "too much gender", and for its exclusion to be acceptable on the basis of "simplification" - in which case it's worth noting that recent studies on mice have actually shown greater variability in males on a number of markers. (p 322)

Flirting with Fire (Blue Collar Brothers, #1) by Piper Rayne (3/16/20)

8. Cucumber - "Once he reaches me, I'm a ball of nerves, trying to cut up a cucumber nonchalantly. (p 232)
22. Ivy - "Why not just say poison-ivy?" (p 8)
23. Jade - "Hey, Jade." (p 242)
