Yennefer disappears, and Geralt is seriously wounded, so he is sent to the elves of Brokilon for healing. The book switches back and forth between Geralt and Ciri as he tries to find her and she tries to survive as war rages throughout the land.

I was a bit disappointed with this volume - the pace slowed considerably and the book could not keep my attention for very long so it took me longer than usual to finish it. What was most irritating, though, was not the story but what to me appeared to be a poor job of translating. The book was riddled with grammatical and punctuation errors, and especially with what at first glance may look like typos; but considering that many of them were misused homonyms or homophones, I suspect it was a problem with the translator not being as proficient in English as could be desired, or else someone just used a Word program's spell/grammar check and did not bother to edit it. The errors seemed to increase as the book went along too. I just hope the next volumes are better or it will be a long slog to finish the last three books of the series.
