This fictional story—set in Kabul and Washington, D.C., during 2011 and 2012—is unlike other stories that have involved Afghanistan. This story is not about bravery and sacrifice on the battlefield.
It’s not a story about chasing down Osama bin Laden.
It’s a story about brave men and women, not in uniform, who fight for the basic human rights of children. Girls have a basic human right to an education. And men haven’t earned a right to abuse boys because they were abused as a child.
It’s also a story about the greed of high-ranking government officials in both capitals who preferred to fatten their bank accounts than perform their sworn duties.
