2015 Reading Challenge discussion
What will your first book of 2015 be?
I'm going to start with "Olive Kitteridge"-- for my pulitzer-prize winning read! I've been meaning to read it and this challenge will make me do it!! Thanks for including me! (I may also need to read "50 Shades..."-- I haven't but it would be a good one for the made into a movie challenge book!).
I love it, Andi! I may look into that for my Pulitzer book too!!Fifty Shades is a challenge lol the first book is my fav then the 2nd book is next on that list. I'm trying to get through this last book haha it's my least fav so far. The writing is beyond awful...just look past it lol!
I'm planning on reading The Shining once I've finished re-reading The Lord of the Rings Trilogy :) !!

Gina I'm also thinking of checking out Amy Poehler's book! Might not be for my first book but top of my list.
This is exciting! I've been terrible with reading lately so I hope this gets me back on track! Not sure what my first book will be yet though!
I think I might start with Stephen King's "It" :) I'm very curious what happens on those approximately 1000 pages!
I went 'shopping' at my parents and boyfriend parents houses this week for new books to read and came home with a bunch of great reads!!
i have quite a pile of books id like to get through, i am going to aim for 2 books a month... i just read gone girl, because i couldnt wait lol
first book up is; mr. x - peter straub
then i have the sherlock works to read. i am also aiming for getting game of thrones series and getting that read.
I think I'll read Gone Girl because I haven't yet. That's if I finished The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness before the end of the year. I'll start with it today or tomorrow.
Danielle wrote: "I think I'll read Gone Girl because I haven't yet. That's if I finished The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness before the end of the year. I was disappointed in the ending of Gone Girl as well (I read it a few years ago), BUT I absolutely loved the movie and seeing the story come to life made me understand the ending better.
Naura wrote: "I was disappointed in the ending of Gone Girl as well (I read it a few years ago), BUT I absolutely loved the movie and seeing the story come to life made me understand the ending better."hmm, thats encouraging. i was planning on skipping the movie after seeing the trailer. i just might have to watch it now!
I'm going to go for the 500 pg. book first: The Book of Strange New Things. Reading it with another reading challenge group.
I am going to read Girl Interrupted because I can use it for this challenge (A book that became a movie) plus two other challenges that I am doing. :)
I think to start 2015 I am going to read all three of the 50 shades just for fun as this is a busy time of year for me. I have next on my list to read Born To Run by Christopher McDougall. You all have put out great suggestions here. Loving this.
Born to Run is such a great story! Are you an ultra runner?
Not an ultra runner but marathons. My dad gave it to me and I just haven't read it yet. I am reading Unbroken right now. I WISH I was an ultra runner! LOL!
If you're a marathoner, you can be an ultra runner easily! I went from 10K to ultra! Unbroken is on my to-read list! Enjoy Born to Run!
This will be my first:
I could fit this into several categories, but I guess I will start with "memoir."
I'm going to start with the book I started but never finished. I only got about 2 chapters into The Kite Runner about a month ago and then got swamped with work. Time to try again!
I'm thinking about reading The Princess Bride by William Goldman! (Book that became a movie) Love the movie, I bet it will be a great book! Also starting that free trial of Kindle Unlimited ;3
I think I'm going to go with City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare (Book a friend recommended) because one of my friends has been trying to get me to read this for over a year and I've just been a bit useless. :p
I'm currently finishing up Jane Eyre, it's been in my currently reading list most of the year. I'm also trying Kindle Unlimited to see if it has enough books I'd want to read to make it worth it.
Finishing 'Look who's back' by Timur Vermes first and then 'Requiem' by Lauren Oliver and 'Winter's Tale' by Mark Helprin.
Just finished Nicola Moriarty Free-Falling.I actually really enjoyed it
This ticks "book by a female author" and is me started on this challenge
Decided my first book will be I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings because sadly I haven't read it yet! This will fit nicely under 'book you were supposed to read for school but didn't'. :)
I'm in my first year of college now, but all though school I've always read everything I was supposed to. (Yes, I was that freak who actually ENJOYED the books we had to read lol). I think I'm going to change the challenge into rereading a book I had to read for school, so I want to start off the year with Wuthering Heights, one of my favorite books ever!!
I'm starting with Wild by Cheryl Strayed. Then I'm on to rereading Jane Eyre. I think I'm going to listen to Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk by David Sedaris while I work out. It's a lot of books to get through in a year, so I thought "reading" a few books on my list through audio would be helpful.
Karen wrote: "Tami, that looks like a good one. I love Memoirs and biographies."Karen, I am about 250 pages in and it's very interesting. The first few chapters were a bit dull--a lot of politics and background history about Prague/Czech Republic, but once Albright got into the years after her birth and the events leading up to Hitler's invasion, it has become hard to put down.
I started my book of short stories- The Best of H.P. Lovecraft: Bloodcurdling Tales of Horror & the Macabre.
My first book of 2015 was The Return of the Soldier by Rebecca West. It's about a British soldier in WWI who suffers a concussion and loses all memory of the past 15 years, including his marriage. He thinks he's still in a relationship with his girlfriend from the past, and the story revolves around the willingness of the people in his life to do what must be done to help him, regardless of how it affects each of them. The writing style is a bit dated, but it's a beautiful study of the meaning of true love.
And it's by a female author, so I'm on my way.
I've just finished 1984 by George Orwell. It's one of those books I ought to have read when I was at school and didn't. But, as I've got a couple of those still to read, I'm popping it into the 'book with a number in its title' category.
I just finished I Work at a Public Library: A Collection of Crazy Stories from the Stacks a few days ago for my funny book.
