Heather M | 7 comments I was wondering if anyone else has finished Alphabet Squadron. I finished it the other day and was pretty impressed by the time I got to the end. I started out not liking it too much, finding it hard to get into. Seemed like it took a long time to get all of the characters introduced so it's quite a ways into the book before you can settle in and "get comfortable" with the story. The Devon storyline proved really interesting, and I loved the Rogue One references.

The story, the characters, and their motives seem convoluted sometimes, but I also think that it's because this book mimics life pretty well. It's not always straightforward and sometimes people don't even know what they want or what they are fighting for. You have to learn about their characters through their actions and not much through internal dialogue, which I think is what's taking me so long to feel like I know these characters. I hope there is more steady character building in the next book.

Looking back, though it started slow, I now think it's appropriately paced for a first book in a trilogy. I'm pretty excited for Shadow Fall; I think it'll be cool to check in with these characters again.

So, if you've read the book, do you have a favorite part or a favorite character? It's hard to choose. I like Chass more that I've learned more about her, and I'm still super curious about Kairos. Also excited to know more about Keize. As for a favorite part, I really like picturing the characters walking through nature and experiencing the temple. Also Devon and the plot to bomb Traitor's Remorse. I wonder if we'll get more about that.

N.E.C.C. | 60 comments I went into this with my expectations very tempered because of Alexander Freed, i liked the Rogue One novelization but i wasn't a fan of Twilight Company. I'm glad i read it because i liked it a lot.

My favourite characters was probably Wyl Lark and my favourite parts were the space fight with Alphabet Squadron all toguether.

As you said, it did take it's time with the introduction of the rest of the squadron but when i finished the book i wasn't mad about it. The one thing i didn't like was the fact that you hardly spend time with the Empire side, i hope they fix that for the sequel.

I listened to it as a audiobook. Could not get into it at all.

I do plan on reading the second book though. I've learned that though the Star Wars books have great production values, unless Mark Thompson or Jonathan Davis are narrating, I have trouble following the story.
