Absolutely amazing heroine

message 2: by valdi (new)

valdi (evaldez) | 25 comments One of the strongest and greatests characters to ever exist

☀︎El In Oz☀︎ (elinoz) Literally in my top 5 favourite female book characters ever. I love her.

message 4: by Spriya (new)

Spriya | 242 comments absolutely iconic lolll

JustMyWayOfThinking | 5 comments honestly I actually preffered her as Celeana because I felt like she forgot that she could use a sword once she got her powers it's like she kind of forgot the assassin side of her too easily

message 6: by Spriya (new)

Spriya | 242 comments I agree! Once she became Aelin, everyone forgot about the assassin side of her which annoyed me. She was a stringer character as an assassin

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I liked her more as Aelin, because even though she had her powers and everything, at the base of it was her assassin training. It was just more subtle. Like when she had to make a shield out of fire in HoF. Or cut down a section of the Valg army with her powers depleted.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Either way, she's still absolutely iconic with her eyes and swagger and sass.
Queen.

yes, I think Aelin was powerful and she never forgot her assassin side, let's be honest she would have died in the battle without it, and she used a sword a lot, so she never forgot, and really how could she? I just loved seeing her as herself, no facade

message 10: by Karina (new)

Karina Flores (karina_celine) I think once she became aelin she never truly buried the assassin. What she buried was the facade she had to put up constantly in order to survive the assassins den. She never truly got to be herself. So when she became Aelin it’s like she just added on to the assassin side. She let herself grow and care for people.

☀︎El In Oz☀︎ (elinoz) Karina wrote: "I think once she became aelin she never truly buried the assassin. What she buried was the facade she had to put up constantly in order to survive the assassins den. She never truly got to be herse..."

agree 100%

message 12: by Karina (new)

Karina Flores (karina_celine) :) yay !
Aelin was definitely a really cool character to read about ! Her character development throughout the books was AMAZING

I do agree, but I wish we could see more of the assassin side through Aelin. I feel like after the first book, we lost a lot of that super cool assassin character. Again, that's just imo. After the first book, the mood of the series completely shifted.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

the plot of the series shifted after the first book, which is probably why. The first book was just Celaena trying to earn her freedom; the rest of the series was really centered on her rise to Aelin, which is why we lost part of the first book's mood.

message 15: by Karina (new)

Karina Flores (karina_celine) I think it’s crazy how someone who just finished kingdom of ash could talk to someone whose only read throne of glass and they would have no idea ! The first and last books are so different !!

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

exactly! the first book was supposed to be a cinderella retelling and now KoA is just....I mean, damn.

message 17: by Karina (new)

Karina Flores (karina_celine) Lol that means arobynn was the evil step mother 🤣🤣

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I think it deviated a lot. As in, a lot.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I mean, the evidence is there: Girl mistreated (Enovier), handsome prince (Dorian), fancy ball (the Yulemas one Celaena crashes). It's just very different. I think it evolved as SJM wrote it, because she did start when she was 16 and it was published when she was in her thirties .

☀︎El In Oz☀︎ (elinoz) lol actually the idea SJM has was Cinderella BUT the girl was an assassin sent to kill the prince instead

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

oh okay that makes more sense.

message 22: by Karina (new)

Karina Flores (karina_celine) Holy crap that is a hell of a retelling. If I knew that while reading it would’ve been that much better !

W.O.W. Talk about a plot twist.

Honestly, I think now we don't need perfect fairytales, a lot of us probs prefer knifes and magic and assassins

☀︎El In Oz☀︎ (elinoz) lol I love both! Like I love a sweet Disney fairy tale, and I also love the whole magic evil assassin books too

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

I love twisted fairytale retellings, like Princess of the Midnight Ball and House of Salt and Sorrow (the Twelve Dancing Princesses)

message 26: by Karina (new)

Karina Flores (karina_celine) I’m definitely going to read the books you just listed ! I love retellings.

DO IT!

message 33: by Karina (new)

Karina Flores (karina_celine) I just recently reread heir of fire and I hadn’t realized just how great this book was until I reread it! I I’ll reread the whole series as soon as my friend gives me back the first two books I loaded her!

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

literally me though. I'm so slow.

message 35: by Karina (new)

Karina Flores (karina_celine) I definitely agree with you!

message 36: by Spriya (new)

Spriya | 242 comments I think Aelin is a perfect example of the main protagonist not needing to be relatable, per se, in order to be a phenomenal character in general.

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Exactly. She was relatable in some aspects, but I think part of what made her so amazing was that she seemed so larger-than-life. But she was still, in a way, human.

message 38: by Spriya (new)

Spriya | 242 comments y e s
I know a lot of people hate her because she's so "unrealistic" and OP, but again, going with the whole "unrelatable" thing, I feel like so many people LOVE her because she's the best version of themselves. Completely unrealistic, but a dream version of themselves if they could.

message 39: by Sofia (new)

Sofia (sofloaf) WE STAN A QUEEN!!!

message 40: by Sofia (new)

Sofia (sofloaf) I think she's incredibly human. She has hobbies besides killing people. She admires herself in the mirror. She likes to look pretty. SHE'S SELF ABSORBED AND I LOVE HER FOR IT. I'm sick of "humble" and "plain" heroines. I want a QUEEN, and I got one <3

message 41: by N (new)

N The BEST!!! She's up there with Feyre, Bryce, Mor, Amren and Lysandra, so thats saying something!!!

message 42: by evie (new)

evie ˎˊ- (high-lady-of-terrasen) She's awesome. Kickass, and funny, and awesome. Not that relatable, but still one of the best characters in the series.

message 43: by Laura (new)

Laura PVV (analaurapvv) | 69 comments I LOVE her. We need more female leading characters like her. Quit writing about "nice" heroines that always depend on some guy to save them. Mah queen is badass

message 44: by Claire (new)

Claire Duggan | 6 comments I liked how at the end she grew as a person, learning to embrace herself and her troubles in the past. She learned that she was allowed to love despite all the things she was forced to do by arobynn. I am happy she got to be with friends and family and got to be happy in her home as well as in her skin.
