Nice one Ayshe! I’ve started reading/rereading the gargoyle and (even though I haven’t got to anything I can remember yet?!) I’m convinced you must be right. Thank you so much. This has been gnawing away at me for some time.
Had a dream like style / quality to it.

A man who is nearly burned alive, wakes up in hospital and is visited by a mysterious woman who tells him stories as he recovers. They fall in love.
**SPOILERS**
Their story ends with the woman walking into the sea and never being seen again.
One of the short stories - A farmer's daughter is a glass blower with a beautiful voice. She falls in love with local chap from a nearby village/farm/field. News of her work travels and the Prince/King passes through their town to commission a statue. On seeing her, he decides he wants her. She blows a glass statue while singing before being taken to her ivory tower. Whenever her lover wants to hear her voice he breaks off a tiny piece of the statue and her singing is released.
That's about all I can remember and I'm sure some of the above must be wrong! Still, if you can think of anything like this please ping away. I'd love to find and read it again. Though I admit it was probably of it's time for me.
