The battle of the heavyweights. Ian Rankin's Rebus, operating outside the law with many enemies but admired by his close colleague Siobhan Clarke (shiv) Harry Bosch similar attitude to authority but tries to work within the law. I love the comparison between English and American crime writing they both have important roles to play

Mark Schulman | 4 comments Harry Bosch and John Rebus are two very good detectives who each have their own unique histories and faults. They are fascinating three-dimensional characters. When crime fiction is at its best the major reveal is not the culprit but rather deep facets of human nature and a glimpse of what it is like to live in the time and locations where the action takes place. Both Michael Connelly and Ian Rankin accomplish this.
