Nese Ellyson (neseellyson) | 5 comments Hi Do you like reading about animals in your stories? Their relationship with the characters, does it add an element to the story?

I love reading about animals but I was never fond of talking animals. I have several animals in my stories. I think the bonding that people do with their animals can move the story and you can understand more about your character through it. For instance in the Ian's Realm trilogy, Ian has a very close relationship with his horse that weaves through the story like a golden thread. I loved writing about that relationship because it showed how loyal the horse is despite the dangers it faces with his master.

On another note, the cat in Hunger Games really added to the story, especially since Katness wasn't too fond of it. It gave her a quirky flaw that added to the story. What other animals were there in books that added to character?

Vickie (vixiejj) | 2 comments I love having animals in stories! It adds something extra and when I was growing up all of my favourites contained something furry! :)

I love animals in stories! There is a monkey in Digitus 233. He isn't a talking monkey, but he does interact with the main character and torments him a bit. Most people love Crazy Dude, the monkey, but one reader felt having a monkey interact with a human was too unbelievable.

Nese Ellyson (neseellyson) | 5 comments So sorry to be absent from the discussion. First computer fail and then had a identity crisis with my author page. But enough of that.
I love seeing how animals are naturally protective of those they care about or for. Like the mommy cat rescuing her kittens from a burning building. Or dogs that protect their owners from other dogs.

Basil Pearl (basilpearl) | 2 comments I absolutely adore animals in stories. The depth that Rags, Zee's yellow lab brings to the storyline in "Middlesettlements" a pretty cool one.
Sometimes our pets know us better than we know ourselves.
