Even though this book is cataloged in a slightly younger section, it is definitely worth a read - especially if you ever read the picture book by Chris Van Allsburg called the Mysteries of Harris Burdick. Has anyone else read this one? What do you think? Which story was your favorite?

Haajra (hrsirhindi) | 1 comments I have only read two short story collections and both I really liked. The first one would have to be Zombies v. Unicorns, although I don't remember much of it since it has been a while. The second one was recently published and it's called Monstrous Affections. I love the stories in this one because the main characters are diverse and despite the differences between many of them, they learn to accept everyone.

Aroog (coo1dad) | 2 comments Grim is one of the only short story collections for YA that I've read in a while. It has a host of characters from numerous backgrounds, so it never disappoints me in regards to diversity. However, this short story collection had more stories about robots than mogai individuals, which had me pretty salty. Outside of the genre are anthologies of Mary Higgins Clark's short stories, which are scary but really, really good.

I tend to stay away from story collections because I need more depth in what I read. There isn't time to develop characters and plot. But they DO have the advantage of being able to shock you with a surprise twist.
