What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Okay so I read this in 2016 probably? The two books (Idk if there are more in this series) that I’ve read follow the story of a girl who lives in a village surrounded by a high wall in the forest. There’s a church and the nuns rule the place. She’s expected to marry a boy from her village, even though she is in love with his brother, who is engaged to her best friend. Her father is missing and her mother is convinced that he hasbturned into a zombie, which is why she goes looking for him every day by the fence. Then, the main character discovers that the nuns are hiding a girl who escaped from another village. She is looking for answers when the zombies make a hole in the fence and kill almost everyone. The main character escapes with her fiancé, his brother, her best friend, her brother and his wife. Ever since she was a child, she was fascinated by the stories her mother told her of the ocean, so that is what she looks for while going down the path from which the mysterious girl emerged. It leads to another village, they get ambushed and I think she is the only one to survive. Eventually she gets out of the damn forest and finds the ocean and goes to live in the lighthouse neigbouring another village.


Part 2 is about her daughter wanting to escape the ocean village and wanting to break free. It’s basically part 2 of Disney’s The Little Mermaid retold.

I hope someone knows something, maybe the author,maybe the title of the book. I would love to read it again.

The title may have been something like the forest, or the woods (something like that?) and I believe the cover was dark green with leaves?
