Honestly I think its Owen's fault because as far as I can remember Emma's intentions weren't for anyone to get hurt or especially die. I can't remember if Owen's intentions were malicious but didn't it have something to do with being angry with his family because stuff changed after his dad died? But either way, Emma tried to end it and Owens the one who started it up again and led to the death.
