I want to read fiction with an Amish protagonist--but I don't want romance. Thanks in advance. :)

What about Plain truth by Jodi Picoult? (The protagonist in not exactly the Amish girl, but you kinda get to know her a lot)Just a suggestion..
You could try searching or asking in the group "Fans of Amish Fiction": https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...
If you like Sci-Fi, anything by Michael Bunker ought to be interesting. Probably Pennsylvania is a good place to start.
I would second 'Plain Truth' - loved it. Also 'The Friday Gospels' by Jenn Ashworth maybe worth a look - if I remember rightly it is also about the Amish.
and if you liked the Little House books, I'm sure you would enjoy the 4-book series beginning with~
lots and lots of info about Amish culture.
Linda Castillo, as a recall, has a mystery series set in Amish County; main detective used to be a member of the Amish (? been a while since I read the series). Also Jane Jenson has a book, Kingdom Come that is a mystery set in Amish territory.
The Amish Village Mystery Collection: Murder Simply Brewed, Murder Tightly Knit, Murder Freshly Baked is a series set in an Amish town with lots of tourists. There is some romance, but the main focus is the mystery, as I recall. The author of this series also has another series set in Amish county.
Linda Castillo: Sworn to Silence.Adult crime, tends to get cruel, and very bloody.
MC is an Ex-Amish Cop (Sheriff, I think), female, Kate Burkholder in a community in rural USA Amish and non-Amish.
Seven (#07) Novels, and a few short story-novellas.
So far I have read 2 of the novels and 1 short-novella.
Kate Burkholder series
My reviews:
Sworn to silence, a bit too much about myself, maybe. Sorry for that.
and
Pray for silence
Looking over the reviews I cannot warn enough, that these books are in my view FSK 18 - German rating for adult-only.
If you want to compare it to other writers regarding the blood-torture level, think Mo Hayder, Karin Slaughter and Val McDermid (The Mermaids Singing-series/Wire in the blood) .
As I have not read more yet, one fear is that it will get more cruel/bloody in the series and the other that they are built the same way, one of the main reasons I drop authors I otherwise like (Jeffery Deaver being one example) or tend to not read more than one book in a few months by that author. Looking at how much time has passed, I may read the third book now.
Even with the warning, I like the books and recommend them if you are up to it.
