So many groups start with the first book of a series but never work their way pass the initial book. I would love to progress through the entire Malazan Book of the Fallen series as a group.I nominate Deadhouse Gates by Stephen Erikson
Can the nominations be a standalong, and can both Science Fiction and Fantasy be nominated or just one or the other?

You can nominate sci-fi and/or fantasy, up to you! And yes to standalones :)

If lots of people are up for that then I would be happy to do that too :)

I vote for deadhouse gates as well. It seems like the series itself can be a confusing one so discussions it or even reading discussions can help also it seems from the veterans of the series that even if you aren't huge on gardens you should give deadhouse a try as his style changes a bit. So I think as a group we should try to do Malazan together at least that much.
I would go for that, but I have already read the series by myself and with the Malazan group and Tor couple of years ago.
Here are a few Ideas:Tom Pollock - Thet City's Son
Catherine Valente - The Girl who Circumnavigated Fairyland
Chris Wooding - Retribution Falls
Stella Gemmell - The City
Adrian Tchaikovsky - Empire in Black & Gold
Okay I think the plan is certainly people want to read Malazan 2 (and I do too) but we'll also have another book in parallel which is optional so I'd love suggestions for the other option!
Ta for all the feedback guys. I'm happy so many of you want to keep joining in with Malazan and possibly other books!!

I'm usually intimidated by these nomination threads because I know the majority of the books that I want to read are books everyone pretty much has already read since I just started reading heavily again last year. So I usually just go with whatever has been decided. But I'll second the nomination for Mistborn: The Final Empire too.
and add a couple older books I want to read from my shelves: Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings and The Black Company by Glen Cook (both are smaller books)

In terms of Mistborn The Final Empire I will be announcing that there is going to be a readalong for that in Feb already (I'm taking part as a re-read) which Lindsey from Lindsey Rey is hosting (shh...it's a secret) so probably better if we leave that because there will be a group for that nearer the time and there's a lot more planned around that which I will be announcing very soon on my Youtube channel (I'll tell you guys soon, promise!)
The other suggestions will all be added to the poll when sunday rolls around, keep the ideas coming! :D
I'll nominate The Red Knight by Miles Cameron, and second Retribution Falls, Pawn of Prophecy and Mage's Blood as they're all on my TBR list :)

I'll nominate The Baker's Boy by J.V. Jones as its been on my TBR for a while, and Kaitlin enjoyed reading A Cavern of Black Ice, but some people might be turned off since the trilogy was published in the 90s and ititsut of print.
Hated Pawn of Prophecy, as different of a book as you get from Malazan. Everything Eddings wrote was a rip off of Tolkien. Also he needed a whole book just to introduce the plot, world, characters, and daily life. Really come on.

Interesting different opinions here which is cool. I'll add it into the Poll and we shall see what wins, but the second book is totally optional so if you've already read and disliked the book no need to re-read. Deadhouse Gates will be happening and I shall add it to the group now!

Mage's Blood and The Red Knight would both be interesting and I have them on my tbr pile. To throw out two other ideas I also want to nominate, The Six Gun Tarot and The Child Thief by Brom
Even tho I postponed reading my Robin Hobb Farseer trilogy for this read along, I still think as complex as the Malzan series is, I need someone to hold my hand. I'm not ready to take the training wheels off just yet and tackle the rest of the series alone so yes DeadhouseGates for me. lol
I also will be reading the Deadhouse Gates, so I am glad to hear others will be continuing on with me to keep the motivation up!Another series I want to read soon is the stormlight archives and the kingkiller chronicles.

So this is a new thread (as it's almost halfway through the month already) talking about which books we want to read for February. I am very happy with the way that GotM is going so far and the discussions which have been taking place have been a lot of fun and therefore I would love to extend this to be a monthly group for readalongs.
However, I want your input into what we should read. I plan to make a poll of the 5 most popular choices and suggestions for what we should read next, my only condition for suggestions is that they are either the first in a series, as it needs to be okay for everyone to join in with, or it's the second in GotM as everyone in this group will have read that. Also it must be either Fantasy or Sci-Fi!
Leave your nominations down below and you have until the 18th Jan (next Sunday) for nominations. Once we reach the 18th I will take the 5 most popular and put them into a Poll which we can all vote on, and then we'll know which book we'll be reading for February.
Thank you all for taking part and I look forward to seeing what suggestions you leave!
