My favorite reading memories in school come from my 4th grade teacher Ms. Williams. She is the only teacher I ever had who read aloud to the entire class. She read us books like Encyclopedia Brown, The Great Brain, and Sideways Stories from Wayside School. I remember everyone in class looking forward to the days that she read to us. The books she read to us became the first books that I specifically looked for at the library so that I could read them myself. Previously, I would just browse the shelves and pick out books with covers I liked.
I had a teacher in 5th grade who read aloud to the class. I can still see my teacher leaning against her desk, reading to us. I remember that she read The Borrowers to us, and I had such good memories of that book that when my son was old enough for a read-aloud chapter book, it is one I sought out. Unfortunately, I did enjoy reading it as an adult as much as I enjoyed hearing it read by my teacher when I was a child!
