Hi, i have read the book and i enjoyed it a lot. The book presents a lot of important topic in gender inequality (like finding jobs, gender wage gap, maternity leave and many more). It's very realistic and is still happening in a lot of Asians country, even though the book is a work of fiction. From what I heard, this book is also quite controversial in South Korea.

I read it, and also I watched the movie based on the book. I really enjoyed both of them, i do think that the movie made the husband more lovely tho.
It is a book that is very controversial in SK, because it shows in a work of fiction the reality of many women in SK (or Asian countries). I was reaaaally frustrated with the way her family and the society treated her. It's really heavy in gender inequality but also in mental health, which are two of the many flaws of SK society. The ending was so real for me, like the way the man kind of realised the awful situation of her and feel sorry for her, but it is very much still treating other women the same way.
I read it, and finished it very quickly. It was actually super enthralling which I wasn't expecting. It addressed book mental health and feminism beautifully and gave me insight on a culture I know next to nothing about. Also, the ending was spectacular. Not to spoil, but that final line about having to find a new receptionist had me literally setting the book down and staring a wall for 5 minutes. Such a great book.
Thanks for sharing! I picked it up yesterday and already finished and recommend it to someone else. I found many parts of the story relatable, so I was a little surprised by how controversial it is in SK. I also read an article about how some female celebrities have gotten flooded with hate comments for mentioning the book, while male celebrities (including RM) didn’t seem to face as much scrutiny over talking about it. 😔

I've read the book last year and i really enjoyed it.
I really like how the author give a whole picture of what a normal woman goes through. Kim Jiyoung take us in her journey with the discrimination of woman's worth that society makes, and how no matter what a woman can do people will always see her as a less worthy person compared to man.
I recommend this book to everyone.
